Matrix HR is recruiting Sheet Metal Journeypersons and 3rd & 4th year Sheet Metal Apprentices for an upcoming commercial construction project in Calgary, AB.
This is an opportunity to work with an experienced project team, contribute to a major commercial development, and build valuable experience in a professional construction workplace.
Duration: Approximately 2 months, with potential for extension
Schedule: Approximately 40 hours per week, with potential overtime
Pay:
- Sheet Metal Journeyperson: $44.80 per hour
- Sheet Metal Apprentice: Based on experience and apprenticeship level
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings, sketches, details, and specifications
- Client out, measure, and mark sheet metal according to drawings or templates
- Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products
- Install ventilation shafts, exhaust hoods, air ducts, heat ducts, and material-handling systems
- Fit and join sheet metal components using welding and similar equipment
- Install sheet metal products according to project specifications and applicable building codes
- Install and use rigging and hoisting equipment
- Grind and buff seams, joints, and rough surfaces
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality and installation standards
- Work independently and under pressure while meeting project deadlines
- Coordinate with supervisors, other trades, and project personnel
- Mentor and support apprentices when required
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Complete other duties as required by the project team
Requirements
Sheet Metal Journeypersons:
- Valid Sheet Metal Journeyperson Certificate or Interprovincial Red Seal
- Applicable trade hours and certification requirements
- Previous commercial construction experience
- Strong ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, details, and specifications
- Experience with fabrication, installation,
and repair of sheet metal products
- Strong leadership and apprentice-training skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Positive, team-oriented attitude
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
Third- and Fourth-Year Apprentices:
- Active Sheet Metal apprenticeship
- Third- or fourth-year apprentice status preferred
- Applicable apprenticeship hours and technical training
- Previous commercial construction experience is an asset
- Ability to read and follow drawings, specifications, and instructions
- Willingness to learn and take direction
- Robust work ethic and reliable attendance
- Ability to work safely as part of a construction team
- Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift more than 25 kilograms when required
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to work at heights and in awkward, elevated, or noisy environments
- Good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and spatial awareness
- Ability to work safely in a physically demanding construction environment
- Commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety
Required Safety Certifications
- Construction Safety Training System, CSTS
- WHMIS
- Fall Arrest
- Lift Training
- Travel may be required depending on project needs.
