Job Posting – Shop Foreman (Specialty Process and Power Piping)

Position Summary

Initially, this is a hands-on leadership position. You will work alongside the fabrication team, learning our processes, standards, people, and expectations while contributing directly to fabrication. As your knowledge of the operation and team develops, the role will progressively transition toward supervision, coordination, mentoring, and continuous improvement.

The goal is not to take you away from the trade overnight.

The goal is to develop you into the person who can teach the trade, protect the standard, solve the difficult problems, and build the next generation of craftsmen and women.

You will ultimately become the person the shop team looks to when the work gets complicated.

What I-A-P Is Looking For

You are an experienced piping tradesperson who has earned the respect of the people around you. You understand that a drawing is only the beginning — that successful fabrication requires judgment, sequencing, planning, precision, and an appreciation for what happens downstream. You take pride in your work.

You notice the details other people miss. You understand that specialty alloys don't always behave like carbon steel, and that cleanliness, material control, fit-up, dimensional accuracy, and process discipline matter. You also understand that being a good foreman isn't about having the loudest voice in the shop.

You are someone who can teach without belittling, correct without creating resentment, and hold a high standard while earning the team's trust.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead by example and establish a culture where quality, craftsmanship, and accountability are non-negotiable.
- Initially participate directly in pipe fabrication, fit-up, assembly, and related shop activities.
- Progressively assume responsibility for day-to-day shop supervision and coordination.
- Plan and sequence work to meet project requirements and delivery schedules.
- Coordinate manpower, materials, tooling, equipment, and work priorities.
- Read and interpret piping isometrics, fabrication drawings, P&IDs;, specifications, and project documentation.

- Ensure fabrication activities conform to ASME B31.3, B31.1, project specifications, approved procedures, and applicable requirements.
- Maintain a high level of control over specialty-alloy fabrication, including material identification, handling, cleanliness, fit-up, and contamination prevention.
- Work closely with welders, pipefitters, quality personnel, engineering, and project management.
- Identify potential quality or fabrication issues before they become problems.
- Troubleshoot difficult fabrication challenges and develop practical solutions.
- Mentor apprentices, junior tradespeople, and developing fabricators.
- Share your knowledge of the trade rather than simply directing people.
- Help establish and maintain standardized fabrication practices and work instructions.
- Encourage the team to look for better, smarter, and more repeatable ways to fabricate.
- Support the adoption of new technologies, tooling, automation, and innovative fabrication methods.
- Monitor workflow, productivity, material utilization, and schedule performance.
- Ensure completed work is properly prepared for inspection and release.
- Maintain strong attention to traceability, documentation, dimensional control, and quality records.
- Maintain a clean, organized, professional shop environment.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices.
- Eventually transition from being the person doing the work to being the person developing the people who do the work.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

- Significant experience in the piping trades, preferably as a journeyperson pipefitter or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in pipe fabrication.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising tradespeople.

- Robust ability to read and interpret piping isometrics and fabrication drawings.
- Familiarity with ASME B31.3 process piping and/or B31.1 power piping.
- Strong understanding of pipe fit-up, fabrication sequencing, dimensional control, and installation considerations.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality and safe work practices.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- The ability and willingness to remain hands-on while developing into a supervisory position.

Strong Assets

- Experience with specialty alloys, stainless steels, nickel alloys, duplex or other high-performance materials.
- Experience in code-regulated or high-specification piping fabrication.
- Familiarity with welding processes, welding procedures, and weld-quality requirements.
- Experience working with Quality Assurance/Quality Control and inspection teams.
- Experience with material traceability and quality documentation.
- Experience collaborating with engineering and project management.
- Exposure to CNC, automated fabrication, digital layout, 3D modelling, or other advanced fabrication technologies.
- A demonstrated interest in process improvement and innovative fabrication techniques.

Pay

Inline with union rates and experience.

Why Join Us?

This isn't a traditional production-shop foreman position.

You'll have the opportunity to help shape how a specialty piping shop operates, while developing yourself from a highly skilled tradesperson into a leader and mentor.

You will work with people who care about the quality of what they build, on challenging piping projects involving materials and fabrication requirements that demand real skill.

And you'll have the opportunity to help us continue pushing the boundaries of how specialty piping can be fabricated.

If you take pride in the work and you are an experienced piping tradesperson who is ready for the next stage of your career, someone who wants to lead by example, teach the trade, solve difficult problems, we want to hear from you. Help us build something exceptional.

Pay: $65.00-$68.00 per hour
