Sr. Field Service Engineer – Red Seal Electrician
Job Type: Permanent, full-time
Location: British Columbia, Canada — regional and project-based travel required

Our services include UPS systems, batteries, electrical distribution, commissioning, preventive maintenance, emergency response, EV infrastructure deployments, and related field services.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Sr.
Field Service
Engineer – Red Seal Electrician to support the commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and emergency response of electrical and critical-power systems. The successful candidate will travel to customer sites, including data centers, EV deployment locations, commercial facilities, industrial sites, and other critical infrastructure environments. This role is suited to an experienced Red Seal electrician who can work independently, communicate effectively with customers, and apply sound technical judgment in complex electrical environments. Preference will be given to candidates who also hold one or more of the following:
- P.Eng. designation or EIT status.
- Electrical CET designation.
- Electrical engineering education or professional experience from another country.
- Experience with commissioning, critical power, data centers, UPS systems, or EV infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and provide emergency support for electrical and critical-power equipment at customer sites.
- Perform electrical installation, testing, maintenance, inspection, and modification work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, safety requirements, and customer procedures.
- Support data-center projects involving UPS systems, batteries, PDUs, switchgear, electrical distribution equipment, automatic transfer systems, monitoring systems, and related infrastructure.
- Support EV charging and related electrical infrastructure deployments, including installation coordination, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service response.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment and UPS systems.
- Perform commissioning-focused design and installation reviews.
- Prepare and follow commissioning test procedures, Methods of Procedure, switching plans, and site-specific work plans.
- Coordinate and oversee on-site testing, functional checks, start-up activities, and equipment acceptance testing.
- Read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and equipment documentation.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems using appropriate test equipment and diagnostic procedures.
- Work safely around energized and de-energized systems in accordance with approved procedures and site requirements.
- Respond to emergency service calls and work toward providing customers with a first-time fix whenever reasonably possible.
- Provide technical assistance to customers by telephone, video conference, and on site.
- Communicate equipment issues, findings, risks, and recommended corrective actions clearly to customers, project teams, and technical support personnel.
- Consult with supervisors, engineers, manufacturers, and technical support teams regarding unusual problems or system developments.
- Participate in equipment start-up, field modifications, upgrades, retrofits, and system rebuilds.
- Maintain current knowledge of safety notices, service bulletins, field-change notices, manufacturer updates, and applicable electrical requirements.
- Complete accurate and timely service reports, commissioning reports, timecards, expense reports, inspection records, and other required documentation.
- Manage assigned schedules, travel arrangements, tools, materials, and customer commitments independently.
- Support occasional training, equipment testing, and technical development activities at company or manufacturer facilities.
Qualifications
- Valid Canadian Red Seal Electrician certification is required.
- Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive electrical experience; extensive experience in critical power or field service is strongly preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a P.Eng. designation, EIT status, Electrical CET designation, or electrical engineering education or experience from another country.
- Experience with data centers, UPS systems, batteries, switchgear, PDUs, electrical distribution, static transfer switches, automatic transfer switches, branch-circuit monitoring, or similar critical infrastructure is preferred.
- Experience with EV charging infrastructure, commercial electrical systems, industrial projects, or large-scale deployments is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory, three-phase systems, grounding, protection, distribution, and safe work practices.
- Experience with 347/600 V, 480 V, or other high-capacity electrical systems is an asset.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment to the component or system level where applicable.
- Familiarity with electrical and electronic test equipment, including multimeters, insulation resistance testers, phase rotation meters, power-quality analyzers, and other commissioning tools.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, equipment manuals, and construction drawings.
- Experience preparing or following commissioning procedures, switching plans, MOPs, test scripts,
and service documentation.
- Experience with UPS manufacturers such as Vertiv/Liebert, Schneider Electric/APC/MGE, Eaton/Powerware, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, or comparable systems is an asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with electrical, electronic, and electromechanical equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and electronic service-reporting systems.
- Clear, concise, and professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact comfortably with customers, contractors, engineers, vendors, project managers, and senior technical personnel.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage an independent schedule.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to data centers, EV deployment sites, and other customer locations.
- Ability to meet customer, security, and site-access requirements where applicable.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to work in data centers, electrical rooms, construction environments, industrial facilities, and outdoor deployment locations.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, reach, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined or restricted areas.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, electrical test equipment, and other field-service equipment.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended hours in response to commissioning schedules or emergency service requirements.
- Ability to travel by vehicle and commercial transportation as required.
- Ability to lift and safely handle equipment, tools, and materials weighing at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to distinguish colors and read equipment labels, wiring, indicators, meters, and electrical documentation.
