Minimum Requirements:
- Ideally 7 to 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in geotechnical/civil earthworks,
particularly related to the design, construction, operations and performance monitoring of earthen dams, pit walls and dumps
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Civil / Geological/Mining Engineering from an accredited university. Masters degree in geotechnical engineering discipline is considered an asset
- Must be eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA and currently hold Professional Engineer status in Canada
- Geotechnical experience with mining, tailings, and oil sands operations, with related design and/or field experience considered an asset
- Experience conducting slope stability and seepage analyses, and sufficiently familiar with using related software

Responsibilities:
- Take on Intermediate to Senior Geotechnical Engineer responsibilities for existing and new structures, including investigations, design, regulatory compliance, operational support, performance monitoring, and closure/decommissioning planning
- Conduct surveillance of geotechnical structures, including site inspections, interpretation of instrumentation data, development of instrumentation scopes, report writing,
and assessment of laboratory and field test results
- Prepare technical documentation to satisfy Suncor’s Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) requirements, support regulatory reporting, develop scopes of work for new construction, and recommend remedial actions to maintain the integrity of existing structures
- Support senior engineers in geotechnical investigations and analyses, including slope stability, seepage, liquefaction, hydraulic fracture, settlement, and freeboard assessments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Short- and Long-Range Mine Planning, Tailings Planning, Operations, and Reclamation, to understand project plans, optimize designs, and provide geotechnical recommendations
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Develop toward a future Engineer of Record role through progressive experience and demonstrated technical competence.

- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
