About Grocery Checkout

Grocery Checkout Inc. operates a busy grocery store located directly on York University campus. We serve a diverse university community and pride ourselves on providing students, staff, and faculty with a convenient, welcoming place to shop for fresh foods, grocery essentials, snacks, beverages, and more.

We are looking for an experienced Store Manager with a solid grocery background to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our York University location.

This is a hands-on management position. The successful candidate will be comfortable leading a small team while also being actively involved on the sales floor, maintaining store standards, managing inventory, and ensuring the store runs smoothly.

What You'll Do

As Store Manager, you will be responsible for the overall day-to-day performance of the store, including:

- Leading, training, scheduling, and supporting a primarily student-based team
- Ensuring excellent customer service and a welcoming store environment
- Managing inventory levels, ordering and receiving merchandise
- Maintaining strong in-stock levels while controlling waste and shrink
- Overseeing merchandising, displays, pricing and product rotation
- Ensuring freshness, cleanliness and food-safety standards are consistently maintained




- Monitoring store sales and identifying opportunities to increase revenue and improve profitability
- Managing labour effectively based on store needs and sales volumes
- Ensuring opening, closing, cash-handling and operational procedures are followed
- Using POS, inventory, scheduling and other digital systems to support efficient store operations
- Working closely with ownership on promotions, product selection and opportunities to improve the store
- Taking ownership of problems and following through to resolution

What We're Looking For Grocery retail experience is required for this position.

The ideal candidate will have:

- A minimum of 2–3 years of grocery management or supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of grocery retail operations, including inventory, ordering, receiving, merchandising and shrink control
- Experience leading, training and motivating employees
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- The ability to prioritize and follow through in a busy retail environment
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills
- Strong comfort with technology and the ability to learn and confidently use POS, inventory, scheduling, spreadsheet and other digital systems
- A hands-on management style and willingness to work alongside the team




- Good judgment and the ability to solve problems independently
- Flexibility to work within the needs of a retail operation
- A valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle are considered an asset, as occasional local supplier pickups may be required
