We are searching for a Student Services Coordinator to coordinate special education supports for children requiring learning assistance and to students who require additional supports in all academic areas.
Kipohtakaw Education Centre is a K-12 school with over 300 students with a strong focus on Cree language and cultural programming. We have educational assistants for almost every class and additional one on one EA's. We implement a restorative approach to discipline with a great team of support, including a wellness team, land based education, Elders program, and our own locally developed history curriculum (to name a few). We also have a VP for elementary and a VP for jr/sr high.

Education is located 40 minutes northwest of Edmonton or 20 minutes northwest of St. Albert.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Education Degree or degree from social sciences field. A Masters Degree is an asset.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess abilities of students referred to student services/Wellness team.
- Develop and implement a plan for working with each student that is referred.
- Communicate with the parents, classroom teachers and assistants as to the assessment results and progress of each student in the resource room.
- Refer students to appropriate departments for services.
- Be responsible for on-going student evaluations through formal and informal procedures for reporting and placements of students.
- Provide ongoing assistance to staff in special education programming.
- Ensure school software systems, for example, PowerSchool, are updated and maintained for special education services.
- Arrange a bi-annual special education meeting consisting of administration, AFNE Director, teachers,
one on one workers and parents/guardians to discuss progress and identify any needs not already being covered.
- Participate in scheduled Wellness team meetings.
- Coordinate all special education services for students and ensure programming is being followed through with staff. (i.e. speech therapy, physiotherapy, etc).
- Liaise with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Jordan’s Principle for reporting and applications for special education. Ensure reporting is done in a timely manner.
- Assist in the preparation delivery of programs particularly those involving local content, Cree language and cultural programming.
- Work with KEC’s Wellness Team and liaise with Alexander First Nation departments as well as partner agencies to assist in coordination and collaboration of service delivery.
- Oversee and assist in the supervision of all KEC staff involved with the delivery of special education services.
- Assist the Education Director to recommendations for the types of specialized programs and partners needed to meet the needs of the students.
- Assist the teachers with evaluations and supervision of one on one educational assistants.
- Participate in and attend cultural and community events.
- Follow AFNE’s staff protocol and Code of Ethics as outlined in AFNE’s policy manual.
- Assume all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Pay: $68,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
