About Bree

Bree is a consumer finance platform that brings better, faster, and cheaper financial services to over half the Canadian population who live paycheck to paycheck. We operate in a huge, but overlooked market in a country with the least amount of financial technology innovation in the developed world. Our first act is to become the cheapest and best provider of short-term credit to the 20 million people in Canada who live paycheck to paycheck.

More than 800,000 Canadians have already signed up with Bree and we believe we are just scratching the surface. We are in an exciting place where we have product market fit, explosive growth, and a clear path to becoming one of the most important FinTechs in Canada.

We have had zero voluntary employee churn. We were part of Y Combinator in 2021 and raised a $2M seed round shortly after.

About the Role

Bree’s engineering team works across customer-facing products, regulatory expansion, payments, infrastructure, security, data, and machine learning. As the company grows, the work increasingly spans multiple teams and requires clearer ownership, sequencing, and communication.

We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to help turn company priorities into well-defined engineering programs and carry them through to release.

You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, CX, Operations, Legal, and leadership. You will help clarify the problem, break large initiatives into manageable workstreams, identify dependencies, establish ownership, and make sure decisions and risks remain visible.

This is not a meeting coordinator or status-reporting role. You should be technical enough to understand how an API, database migration, mobile release, third-party integration, or model change affects a project. You will not be expected to write production code, but you will be expected to ask the questions that help the team make better decisions.

What You'll Do

- Turn ambiguous ML, engineering, and product priorities into scoped, sequenced work engineers can actually execute against.
- Write specs and scoping docs that hold up: understanding real tradeoffs like training data quality, inference latency, retraining cadence, and infra cost well enough to capture them accurately.
- Run the cadence: standups, sprint planning, model review syncs (but only the ones that earn their seat).
- Give exec a weekly read on what shipped, what's at risk, and what decision you need from them, in a form that takes three minutes, not thirty.
- Catch drift early - a model underperforming in validation, a pipeline with a data quality issue, a deploy stuck behind a monitoring gap - before it becomes a missed deadline.

What You'll Need

- Experience as a Technical Program Manager, Program Manager, Product Manager,

or similar role supporting a software engineering organization.
- Enough technical fluency to understand APIs, data models, system integrations, cloud infrastructure, release processes, and software dependencies.
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving setting where priorities and requirements can change.
- Excellent attention to detail, especially around ownership, dependencies, timelines, and unresolved decisions.
- An AI-native working style, using tools to accelerate research, documentation, meeting synthesis, backlog management, and status reporting while validating the output.

Nice to Have

- Prior experience at an early-stage startup with no existing PM function to inherit. You've built the system, not just run one.
- Familiarity with mobile and web release processes, feature flags, staged rollouts, and production monitoring.
- Experience supporting infrastructure, security, data, or machine learning initiatives.
- Comfort reading SQL, logs, dashboards, or technical documentation to validate a claim independently.
- Familiarity with tools such as Linear, Notion, GitHub, Datadog, and Slack.
