Location: Remote

We’re hiring a Senior Design Systems Engineer to support a large-scale government digital design system , helping build consistent, accessible, and user-focused digital experiences across multiple services.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, maintain, and enhance reusable design system components, patterns, templates, and foundations
Develop production-ready component libraries using React and TypeScript
Manage design tokens and ensure alignment between design and front-end implementation
Contribute to front-end architecture focused on scalability, maintainability, and long-term sustainability
Establish design system governance, contribution, release, and version-management practices
Develop technical documentation, implementation guidelines, and usage standards
Work closely with UX/UI Designers, Developers, Product Owners, Accessibility Specialists, and Leadership
Support design-to-code workflows and improve developer experience
Ensure components and digital experiences meet WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level AA accessibility standards
Support adoption of the design system across product and delivery teams
Provide technical guidance,
consultation, coaching, and knowledge transfer
Required Qualifications
5+ years developing modern web applications and front-end systems within the last 8 years
3+ years designing, building, or maintaining enterprise Design Systems, Component Libraries, or shared UX platforms
Strong hands-on experience with:
React
TypeScript
HTML5
CSS
Responsive Web Design
Front-End Architecture
Experience creating and managing Design Tokens and Component Libraries
Experience with Storybook or equivalent component documentation platforms
Robust understanding of Accessibility and Inclusive Design
Experience working with reusable components, variables, patterns, and design-system practices
Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills
Ability to work independently in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
Preferred Skills
Monorepos and package management
Automated component testing
Accessibility testing tools and practices
Experience with Agile product delivery
Design system governance and contribution models
Experience working in government or highly regulated environments
Experience with Vue.js is a plus
