12-Month Term Position (Maternity Leave Coverage)

Department: Community Food Centre
Responsible to: Director, Community Food Centre
EFT: 1.0 (Full time)
Union: CUPE
Hourly Rate: $26.85 - $30.982 (Rates are effective Sept 30, 2026)
Start Date: October 1, 2026
End Date: Approx. October 1, 2027 (with possibility of extension)
Anticipated Shift: Days, may require occasional evenings and weekends
Position Summary:
NorWest Co-op Community Health is seeking a passionate and community-minded Community Action and Engagement Programmer to support programs and community engagement at the Community Food Centre (CFC). This role will work closely with volunteers, students, peer advocates, community members, and local partners to provide support, connect people with resources, and promote food security, social justice, and community leadership.
Education:
Post-secondary degree in a related field is required
A combination of education and experience may be considered
Experience:
3 years of experience in program development, community outreach, and group facilitation
Experience working with and supporting volunteers, students,
and community members
Experience working with diverse communities and people from different backgrounds
Experience building relationships with community organizations and service providers
Knowledge of community resources, food security, poverty, and social justice
Experience with social media and community promotion is an asset
Counselling experience is an asset
Key Responsibilities:
Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers and students
Coordinate volunteer activities, training, and appreciation initiatives
Support and mentor peer advocates and community members
Help plan and deliver community programs, workshops, and events
Connect community members with appropriate services and resources
Build and maintain relationships with community organizations and partners
Promote CFC programs through community events, schools, and social media
Support community initiatives related to food security, poverty, and social justice
Participate in team meetings, program planning, evaluation, and reporting
Maintain accurate records and protect the privacy and confidentiality of community members
