Job Summary & Requirements
RVH has the largest surgical program in North Simcoe Muskoka with 65% of surgeons and approximately 80,000 surgical cases annually.

Anesthesia Assistants (AA) are health care professionals, either RN or RRT that are specially trained to provide anesthetic care to secure surgical patients under supervision and immediate availability of an anesthesiologist. This role is an expanded role of the RN and RRT and requires completion of a postgraduate (diploma) anesthesia assistant training program. The AA will provide technical and clinical assistance to the anesthesiologist. This will include assistance in the block room, inductions within the OR, sedation for endoscopic procedures, sedation for cataract surgery and assistance with Acute Pain Service.
The scope of practice of the AA is defined by their own professional standards and by the Chief, Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine.



Supervising Anesthesiologists within the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine are responsible in delegating tasks that are consistent with these defined roles and practice scope.

Qualifications for this position
Education:

Secondary School Diploma or Equivalent

Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Competence essential or

Registered Respiratory Therapist who is a Graduate of a recognized course in Respiratory Therapy with registered status and holds a current Certificate from the College of Respiratory Therapy of Ontario and registered with the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care

BLS Certificate within one (1) year essential

ACLS- preferred

Basic computer skills

Successful Anesthesia Assistant Graduate Certificate Program

Advance Practice Skills

Life Savings Drugs and Defibrillation

Local and Narcotic Epidural Boluses

Mechanical Ventilation

Pain management

Intubation

Extubation

Rate of Pay: As per the applicable collective agreement. The successful candidate will be compensated in accordance with either the ONA or ONA HCP collective agreement, based on bargaining unit affiliation.

Current hourly rate range: $53.43 - $66.05
