Pay Range: $55,371- $69,175

General Accountability The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, evaluating and determining insurability for routine and minimally complex new and renewal applications for Coachman Insurance Company personal auto (non-standard) insurance products. You will also examine the nature and degree of risk involved, negotiate conditions, rates and premiums with brokers and process insurance policies.

Key Accountabilities

Note: This section is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities – other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Policy Processing

- Process new/renewal applications, revisions, cancellations and quotes with a mix of processing simple current business and servicing existing policies.
- Calculate premiums, ensuring that appropriate rates are used, and that applicable discounts and surcharges are applied.
- Ensure that product and customer service levels are maintained.

Insurance Underwriting

- Review and evaluate routine and minimally complex new/renewal applications to determine the nature and degree of risk involved
- Acquire further information on applications (and the risks involved) when necessary.
- Determine whether to accept or reject the risk or accept the risk subject to certain conditions.
- Place business within the rules and restrictions of reinsurance guidelines.
- Identify and recommend improvements to insurance products and/or systems.

Sales and Negotiation

- Negotiate conditions or limitations with brokers on polices to balance business needs and underwriting guidelines.




- Negotiate rates and premiums with brokers to balance business needs and underwriting guidelines.
- Promote and sell supporting products to brokers.

Broker Relationships

- Explain underwriting criteria and decisions to brokers (verbally and/or in writing).
- Develop and maintain working relationships with brokers to generate a flow of profitable business and provides assistance in resolving any service matters.

Training and Mentoring (Underwriting Assistant)

- Provide training on underwriting policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Give guidance on conditions and rates when required.

Leadership

- Actively contribute to and support a culture of a high performing workforce.
- Participate in divisional succession plans, ensuring ongoing professional and career development and supports development in others.
- Support a culture of leadership and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic and corporate strategies.

Corporate Management

- Enable the success of programs and policies that are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies.
- Manage risk in area of authority.
- Ensure that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility.

Education & Experience

- A two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business.




- One to two experience in underwriting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Knowledge of the principles and practice of insurance, underwriting policies and procedures, and applicable insurance products.
- Knowledge of premiums, coverages, and deductibles for applicable insurance products.
- Knowledge of reinsurance principles.
- Knowledge of the applicable regulatory environment.
