Headquartered in Regina, Saskatchewan, Plannera oversees $19 billion in assets across 11 pension plans and 16 benefits programs in the province. As a not-for-profit corporation, we take pride in administering two of Canada's top 100 pension plans—the Public Employees Pension Plan (PEPP), the country’s largest defined contribution plan, and the Municipal Employees' Pension Plan (MEPP).
We serve over 900 employers and more than 114,000 plan members, everyone from small-town firefighters to crown corporation executives.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Investment Operations, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that the Net Asset Value (NAV) calculations are accurate and complete through entry, review and validation of work performed by others on the team. We are looking for a results-oriented leader with an in-depth understanding of financial markets and investment accounting including corporate actions, settlements, foreign exchange transactions, fund of funds, derivatives, and reconciliations.
Your responsibilities may include
- Reviewing the integrity of the daily unitized valuations prior to recommending approval. This involves processing complicated transactions, calculating and verifying corrections, interpreting and processing corporate actions that impact securities, validating daily pricing of over 1,500 individual securities, validation of trades, and valuation of derivative instruments.
- Analysis of plan asset mix to ensure compliance in accordance with policy, and leading rebalancing activities with investment managers, the custodian and team members.
- Implementing and validating changes to fund procedures, identifying high risk processes, suggesting controls to be implemented to mitigate risks identified and ensuring that documentation is updated to reach operational objectives.
- Reviewing work completed by others, providing guidance to other members of the team and be an escalation point for issues that arise.
- Research and development of valuation policies and processes that support industry best practices and design, test and implement solutions reliant on external service providers and systems.
- Conducting reconciliation of cash and positions, ensuring alignment between our records with Plan custodian, consultant and investment managers.
- Treasury functions including liquidity/cash management, wire/transfer payments, and fx and investment related fees.
Ideal Candidate
You will be
- Demonstrates consistently exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in both their own work and in the peer review of work completed by others
- Demonstrates strong technical aptitude, including intermediate-advanced proficiency in Excel and comfort working with financial systems and data
- Exhibits integrity, initiative, accountability, and professionalism in all aspects of their work
- Values a collaborative, high-functioning team environment where knowledge, workloads, challenges, and successes are shared openly
- Communicates effectively—verbally and in writing—and actively listen to understand and convey complex or specialized information
- Is a proactive self-starter who demonstrates curiosity and sound judgment when investigating discrepancies, with the ability to challenge data, identify root causes, and propose practical solutions
- Is comfortable operating in ambiguity, where not all answers are immediately available, and can independently drive issues to resolution
- Is willing to work outside of normal business hours when required, recognizing the time-sensitive nature of financial markets and valuation deadlines
- Technologically inclined and proficient in Excel. Knowledge of VBA macros is considered an asset.
Typically, the knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is obtained through a combination of:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or similar discipline and 2 or more years of relevant investment, fund accounting or fund valuation experience.
- Educational credentials, professional designations, and certifications will be verified directly with the issuing institutions as part of the hiring process.
- Applications must clearly demonstrate direct, hands-on experience relevant to this role.
A successful employment relationship is built on mutual value. In your cover letter, please tell us what you would bring to the role and the Investment Services team as well as what you value most in an employer, leadership team, and work environment as it relates to your professional growth and long-term career success (maximum three sentences). Please incorporate the phrase “operational precision” in the first paragraph of your cover letter. Please submit your resume as a PDF titled: LastName_FirstName_Resume_ValAnalyst.pdf and your cover letter as a PDF titled: LastName_FirstName_Cover_ValAnalyst.pdf
