The Nova Scotia SPCA is seeking skilled veterinary professionals to support our Public Spay & Neuter Clinic and/or SPCA Shelter Surgery days in Yarmouth. These clinic days provide accessible spay and neuter services to help reduce pet overpopulation, improve animal health and welfare and support families within the community.

We are currently seeking

- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

- Registered Veterinary Technician

- Technician Assistant

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Key Responsibilities

- Perform spay and neuter surgeries, as assigned for public clients.

- Perform medical examinations, treatments, surgeries, as assigned for NS SPCA shelter animal.

- Work collaboratively with RVTs, veterinary assistants, shelter staff, and hospital leadership

- Support established efficient patient flow and timely decision-making

- Help maintain clear medical records and consistent care plans

- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients and staff

Who We’re Looking For
- A licensed DVM

- Strong surgical and anesthetic experience

- Commitment to accessible veterinary care.

Registered Veterinary Technician

Key Responsibilities

- Perform anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery

- Perform drug calculations, draw and administer medications and maintain required tracking logs.





- Assist in surgical procedures

- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments

- Collect and process lab samples (blood, urine, cytology, etc.)

- Place IV catheters and perform venipuncture

- Monitor hospitalized patients and update medical records

- Provide nursing care, triage, and emergency support as needed

Who We’re Looking For
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in good standing

- Strong experience in anesthesia and surgical support

- Experience working in a fast-paced and high-volume environment

- Champion low-stress handling and Fear Free techniques

Technician Assistant

Key Responsibilities

- Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries.

- Monitor anesthesia under supervision of the DVM and/or RVT.

- Prepare patients for examination and procedures by obtaining weights, temperatures, and documenting clinical observations.

- Administer medications, injections, and treatments as prescribed under direct veterinary supervision and in accordance with hospital protocols.

- Monitor patients before, during, and after medical or surgical procedures, reporting any abnormalities or concerns promptly.

- Assist with laboratory sample collection and preparation, and in-house testing as trained.

- Clean, pack, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment; maintain appropriate inventory levels.

Who We’re Looking For




- Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience with clinical procedures typically associated with veterinary technician support roles, obtained through on-the-job training, prior employment, or relevant education.

- Familiarity with outpatient procedures, surgical assistance, anesthesia monitoring, medications, animal restraint, sanitation, and sterilization.

- Hands on skill with patient safety and patient restraint utilizing fear free techniques.

- Strong observational, documentation, and communication skills

- Solid organizational skills and client communication skills.
