The Pig & Duke is a traditional Neighbourhood Pub located in The Beltline in a community called Connaught. We pride ourselves in serving great drinks, outstanding food and most importantly a great time.

True to a tradition of informal gatherings, patrons will find communal tables where they can enjoy food, drinks and participate in various discussions long into the night. We encourage people to squeeze in wherever they find space and enjoy the Pig & Duke’s social experience.

Boasting over 2,000 sq ft of reclaimed barn wood, farm fence and mason brick from the surrounding areas of Calgary, we welcome you to come enjoy the charm of the Pig & Duke. So, find a chair or pull up to the bar to enjoy some beer and some fun banter! Cheers!

We are in search of a hardworking cook to join our team part-time, who can be trusted with ensuring recipes are followed and timelines are met.

Responsibilities

- Is always dedicated to guest satisfaction
- Recognize and learn the names of regular guests
- Present menus to guests and answer questions about menu items, beverages, and other restaurant functions and services
- Monitor and observe dining experiences to ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service, and to promptly and courteously respond to issues
- Take food or beverages orders from guests
- Explain to guests how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods
- Inform guests of menu changes, specials and make recommendations you genuinely feel your guests will enjoy
- Write guests’ food orders on slips, memorize orders, or enter orders into computers for transmittal to Kitchen and Bar Staff
- Garnish and decorate dishes in preparation for serving
- Serve food or beverages to guests
- Where applicable or needed, to prepare hot, cold, and mixed drinks for guests
- Check guest identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements to be in the facility
- Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters and take them to Kitchen for cleaning
- Collect payments from guests
- Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return
- Clean tables or counters after guests have finished dining
- Roll silverware, set up food stations or set up dining areas to prepare for the next shift or for large parties
- Stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware, and linens
- Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware
- Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, tidying up server station, taking out trash,



or checking and cleaning bathroom
- Fill salt, pepper, sugar, cream, condiment, and napkin containers
- Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offer suggestions for improvement
- Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant
- Fill-in for fellow employees where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations; if you are unable to fill your Scheduled Shift to find an appropriate Replacement and to use 7Shifts to Offer your Shift as Available
- Report equipment and facility issues to the General Manager

- Suggest Drink/Food Menus to the General Manager

Qualifications

- MANDATORY: AGLC Proserve and Reel Facts Certification (https://aglc.ca/training)
- MANDATORY: AHS Alberta Food Safety Basics Interactive Course (https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/eph/page3151.aspx)
- REQUESTED: Must be able to lift and move full size Kegs; stack to a height of two (2) Kegs high
- Passion for the service industry, desire to be part of a team and work hard
- Previous experience in a similar role is an asset
- Progressive experience in all aspects of the Food and Beverage industry
- Punctual and reliable attendance
- Positive attitude, personable, and customer service oriented
- Strong customer service experience
- Strong coaching and mentorship skills
- Strong written and verbal English skills to effectively communicate with all members of the team, customers, external service providers, product representatives and the General Manager
- Able to work quickly, problem solve and think on your feet while maintaining poise in a fast-paced environment
- Basic math skills (i.e. to complete Shift Reports and Close Reports)
- High School diploma required; secondary program such as Culinary Arts or Hospitality Program completion is preferred
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods of time
