GTA Aviation Ground Equipment Specialties Ltd. is a distributor and service provider of aviation ground support equipment. We are looking for a motivated and dependable Apprentice Shop Technician to join our YYC team, with a primary focus on welding, fabrication, painting, and equipment refurbishment.
This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who wants to build practical skills working on aviation ground support equipment, trailers, and other industrial equipment.

Job Responsibilities
Welding & Fabrication
- Perform MIG welding and basic metal repair on GSE, trailers, and industrial equipment
- Assist with fabrication, cutting, grinding, drilling, and fitting of metal components
- Repair brackets, frames, panels, guards, and other damaged components
- Prepare metal surfaces for welding and finishing
- Use grinders, drills, saws, and other shop equipment safely
- Assist senior technicians with larger welding and fabrication projects
Painting & Refinishing
- Prepare equipment and components for painting, including cleaning, sanding, grinding, masking, and surface preparation
- Apply primer, paint, and protective coatings using spray equipment and other methods
- Perform touch-ups and minor paint repairs
- Assist with complete equipment refurbishment and repainting projects
- Maintain proper preparation and finishing standards
- Clean and maintain painting equipment and work areas
Shop & Equipment Support
- Assist technicians with mechanical maintenance and repairs when required
- Move tools, materials, and equipment safely around the shop
- Keep the welding, fabrication, and painting areas clean and organized
- Follow work instructions and complete assigned tasks efficiently
- Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a safe work workplace
Requirements
- Basic welding experience preferred
- Basic painting or surface preparation experience is an asset
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools
- Must have basic hand tools
- Valid driver's license
- Clean criminal record
- Physically capable of lifting and performing shop-related duties
- Ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with welding and paint preparation
Assets
- 1 year of welding experience
- Experience with MIG welding
- Experience with industrial painting or spray painting
- Experience with body repair, fabrication, or metal preparation
- Experience working on industrial equipment, trailers, or GSE
- Forklift experience
- Experience using grinders, drills, saws, and other shop equipment
