Job Description:
The Lead Hand plays a critical operational role, working directly alongside team members across both warehouse and production areas. This position balances hands-on execution (picking, packing, machine operation, and quality assurance) with front-line supervisory support. The Lead Hand assigns daily tasks, drives productivity, ensures strict adherence to safety standards, and serves as the primary backup to the Warehouse Manager.
Responsibilities:
- As Lead Hand this role is responsible for working alongside team members in all areas including production and warehouse.
- When working in the warehouse, the role will be picking and packing orders,using warehouse equipment, performing inventory counts as needed, and loading trucks safely and efficiently.
- In production areas, this role will be verifying and packing orders, performing quality checks, operating packaging machines, and completing finishing tasks like applying graphics, light assembly, and labeling.
- Handling tasks such as monitoring assembly lines, troubleshooting, and documenting quality control checks.
- Function as a Lead Hand by assigning daily tasks, supporting team productivity, monitoring output quality, and reporting daily wins, issues, and progress to the Warehouse Manager
- Act as backup warehouse manager when required, leading team meetings, tracking attendance,
conducting safety drills, supporting recent hire training, and addressing minor shift issues or conflicts.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, following company procedures and promoting a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma with experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment
- Health and Safety Supervisory Training
- Proven and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Mechanical aptitude to support equipment and machinery issues
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills
- Intermediate computer skills is an asset
- Forklift and other in-house warehouse equipment licensing required
- Basic math skills required to ensure order accuracy
- Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience working within a manufacturing or warehouse environment
- Hands-on, proven experience in most roles on shift
- Ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization
- Post-secondary education/designation (e.g., logistics, inventory control, supplychain) in a relevant field, or a combination of relevant training and experience ispreferred
- Expert skills in coaching, mentoring, and developing teams are preferred
