Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Law Clerk/Legal Assistant to join our dynamic legal team. In this role, you will provide essential support to attorneys and administrative staff. Your enthusiasm for law, combined with excellent organizational and communication skills, will contribute to the efficient functioning of our legal services. This paid position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced legal environment while supporting justice and client needs.
Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidate will assist lawyers and staff with the day-to-day management of client files and general law office operations. Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting and assisting with new client intakes
- Communicating professionally with clients, prospective clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and other parties
- Opening new client matters and maintaining accurate client and matter information
- Creating, organizing, maintaining, and closing client files
- Maintaining both physical and electronic client records
- Preparing, formatting, reviewing, and organizing correspondence and legal documents
- Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence
- Assisting with court forms, filing, service, and procedural requirements
- Maintaining calendars, deadlines, appointments, and follow-up tasks
- Using legal practice-management software for client and matter administration
- Assisting with legal billing and invoicing
- Recording and processing client payments
- Processing payments by credit/debit terminal and cash when required
- Answering telephone calls and providing professional client service
- Using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 applications in the course of daily work
- Assisting lawyers and other staff with general file management and administrative duties
- Performing other law-office duties as reasonably required
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Minimum one (1) year of experience working in a law office
- Previous law clerk, paralegal, legal assistant,
or comparable legal-office experience
- Experience with legal practice-management or client-management software
- Experience conducting or assisting with client intake
- Experience opening, maintaining, and closing client files
- Robust physical and electronic file-management skills
- Proficiency using Windows-based computers
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook
- General familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Teams, and the Microsoft 365 environment
- Experience with billing, invoicing, and/or processing client payments
- Strong telephone and customer-service skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate professional judgment
- A professional appearance and willingness to comply with the firm's professional dress expectations
- A dependable work ethic and ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to reliably commute to our Windsor office Monday through Friday
Preferred Experience
Preference will be given to applicants with three (3) or more years of law-office experience and/or experience in one or more of the following practice areas:
- Civil litigation
- Small Claims Court
- Family law
- Criminal law
- Real estate law
Experience across multiple practice areas will be considered an asset.
Additional Assets
The following experience will be considered particularly valuable:
Clio: Previous experience using Clio Manage, Clio Grow, Clio Scheduler, or other Clio products.
Legal Aid Ontario:
Experience working with Ontario Legal Aid matters, including familiarity with Legal Aid certificates, accounts, dockets, billing, and LAO billing procedures.
Court Procedures: Familiarity with Ontario court forms, filing procedures, service requirements, deadlines, and online court filing systems.
Hours & Work Environment
Regular business hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This position requires regular in-person attendance at our Windsor office. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to and from the office on a daily basis.
Some flexibility for remote work may be available and can be discussed with the successful candidate; however, this is not a fully remote position.
Occasional work outside regular business hours or on weekends may be required depending on court deadlines, urgent client matters, or other operational requirements.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable working directly with clients, learning different areas of law, using technology to manage files efficiently, and supporting a busy legal practice.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate reliability, professionalism, initiative, sound organizational skills, and the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with clients and colleagues.
Pay: $38,500.00-$56,000.00 per year
