Electrical Estimator Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to develop accurate and competitive project estimates for electrical construction work. This role will be responsible for reviewing project documentation, determining material and labour requirements, obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing, and preparing detailed estimates for a variety of project types and sizes.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple estimates in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, materials, labour requirements, and project costing is essential.

Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Cost Analysis

- Develop detailed electrical estimates for projects ranging from smaller assignments to complex, large-scale construction projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, proposals, scopes of work, and other project information to identify estimating requirements.
- Determine labour, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project costs.
- Complete quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed cost breakdowns.
- Develop estimates for conceptual, design-build, negotiated, and plans-and-specifications projects.
- Prepare pricing independently while ensuring estimates are accurate, competitive, and commercially viable.
- Evaluate project requirements and identify potential cost risks, exclusions, assumptions, and opportunities.
- Prepare pricing for a high volume of change orders and project revisions.
- Develop cost information to support bidding, project planning, scheduling, procurement, and management decisions.
- Perform cost and pricing analysis to identify opportunities for improved margins and cost efficiencies.

Supplier & Subcontractor Management

- Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of suppliers, subcontractors, and electrical trades.
- Request and evaluate quotations to obtain competitive pricing for materials, labour, and subcontracted work.
- Negotiate pricing and terms where appropriate to support competitive and profitable project bids.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Follow up on outstanding quotations and ensure all relevant pricing is incorporated into estimates.

Estimating Systems & Data Management





- Maintain organized estimating records and historical cost information.
- Manage and contribute to a centralized estimating database to ensure previous project data can be used to improve future estimates.
- Track historical labour, material, subcontractor, and equipment costs.
- Review completed projects by comparing estimated costs with actual results.
- Investigate significant differences between estimated and actual project costs and identify contributing factors.
- Identify recurring cost trends and provide recommendations to improve estimating accuracy.
- Recommend improvements to estimating procedures, tools, databases, and workflows.
- Support the development of standardized estimating methodologies and cost benchmarks.

Collaboration & Communication

- Work closely with project management, operations, purchasing, finance, and other internal teams throughout the estimating process.
- Communicate project assumptions, pricing considerations, and potential risks clearly to stakeholders.
- Consult with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other project participants to clarify requirements and resolve pricing questions.
- Participate in estimating reviews and provide recommendations regarding project costs and commercial considerations.
- Maintain professional and productive relationships across internal and external teams.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as required.

Required Skills & Competencies

- Previous experience in electrical estimating, preferably within the electrical contracting or construction industry.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, materials, installations, and field requirements.
- Experience using Accubid or comparable electrical estimating software.
- Experience with Accubid LiveCount, digital takeoff software, or similar on-screen measurement tools.
- Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, schedules, and construction documentation.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

- Ability to collect, analyze, and organize large amounts of project and pricing information.

Technical & Analytical Requirements

- Ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts including percentages, ratios, proportions, fractions, probability, and basic statistical principles.
- Working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry as they relate to construction estimating.
- Ability to analyze data and apply quantitative information to practical estimating situations.
- Ability to identify discrepancies, assess available information, and develop logical solutions.
- Ability to interpret instructions provided through written documentation, verbal communication, drawings, diagrams, schedules, and specifications.
- Ability to prepare clear and professional reports, correspondence, and estimating documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, employees, vendors, subcontractors, and other business partners.

Education & Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Approximately 5 years of electrical estimating experience within the electrical contracting or construction industry preferred.
- Practical field experience in electrical installation and construction is an asset.
- Electrical trade certification or license, combined with relevant field experience, is preferred.
- Completion of a recognized estimating program or post-secondary training in construction/electrical estimating is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with Accubid or comparable estimating software.
- Experience working on complex electrical construction projects and preparing detailed bids is strongly preferred.

Pay: $85,000.00-$115,090.61 per year

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Victoria, BC
