Drywall Finisher / Taper / Texture Expert
DR Painting Ltd. | Edmonton & Greater Edmonton Area, AB
Pay: Based on experience and demonstrated skill level
More Than Just Making the Patch Disappear
At DR Painting, we believe people deserve beautiful spaces and meaningful careers.
We’re building a company our team is proud to work for and our customers are proud to recommend.
To do that, we need skilled people who care about what happens before the paint goes on.
We’re looking for an experienced Drywall Finisher / Taper / Texture Expert who takes real pride in their craft — someone who can walk into a damaged wall or ceiling, understand what needs to happen, complete the repair properly, and leave behind a clean, paint-ready surface.
This is not an entry-level drywall position.
We are looking for someone confident in drywall repairs, taping, mudding, skim coating, sanding, ceiling repairs, texture matching and ceiling refinishing.
The DR Way
Our mission is to deliver exceptional painting experiences through craftsmanship, communication and a people-first culture.
That means the finished product matters — but how we get there matters too.
At DR Painting, we:
Own It
Take responsibility for the job, the details and the finished result.
Take Pride
Treat every customer’s home or property like it matters — because it does.
Keep Growing
Stay coachable, improve our craft and look for better ways to work.
Serve With Integrity
Be honest about what a repair requires and communicate concerns before moving forward.
Win Together
Work alongside painters, Team Leads and Production instead of operating in a silo.
Celebrate Often
Recognize great craftsmanship, progress and a job well done.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
You will help create the surface our painters ultimately put their name on.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Patching holes, cracks, dents and damaged drywall
- Applying joint compound and creating smooth, properly feathered repairs
- Taping drywall joints and repairs
- Applying multiple coats of compound and sanding between coats
- Repairing nail pops, damaged corners and other drywall imperfections
- Installing and repairing corner bead
- Completing small drywall replacement and repair areas
- Skim coating walls and ceilings
- Scraping and removing existing ceiling finishes or textures when appropriate
- Repairing and refinishing damaged ceilings
- Blending repairs into existing surfaces
- Matching existing ceiling textures
- Applying knockdown, stipple/popcorn or other textures where required
- Preparing repaired surfaces to a professional, paint-ready standard
- Protecting floors, furniture and surrounding areas before work begins
- Maintaining effective dust control
- Keeping tools, materials and work areas organized
- Leaving the job site clean at the end of the work
- Safely using ladders, approved work platforms,
hand tools, power sanders and finishing equipment
- Following DR Painting safety, site and quality-control procedures
- Communicating unexpected damage, scope changes or additional repairs to the Production Manager before proceeding
What Paint-Ready Means at DR Painting
We don’t consider a repair finished simply because the hole is filled.
A DR-quality repair should be:
✓ Properly feathered
✓ Smooth and appropriately sanded
✓ Free of obvious ridges, edges and tool marks
✓ Blended into the surrounding surface
✓ Clean and ready for primer
✓ Completed without unnecessary damage to the surrounding property
✓ Something you are comfortable putting your name behind
The goal isn’t to hide a repair with paint. The goal is to make the repair right before paint ever touches it.
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll likely be a strong fit if you:
✓ Have professional drywall finishing, taping and repair experience
✓ Are confident mudding, feathering and sanding repairs to a paint-ready finish
✓ Have strong ceiling repair and refinishing skills
✓ Can blend patches cleanly into existing surfaces
✓ Have experience skim coating walls and/or ceilings
✓ Understand proper surface preparation
✓ Can assess a repair and determine the appropriate process
✓ Have strong attention to detail
✓ Can work independently without sacrificing accountability
✓ Manage your time and materials effectively
✓ Keep a clean and organized work area
✓ Are dependable and arrive at scheduled jobs on time
✓ Communicate professionally with homeowners and teammates
✓ Are comfortable receiving feedback and working within company standards
✓ Take genuine pride in craftsmanship
Experience That Will Stand Out
We’d especially like to hear from you if you have experience with:
- Residential renovations
- Occupied-home repair work
- Matching existing ceiling textures
- Popcorn/stipple ceiling removal and refinishing
- Knockdown and other textured ceiling finishes
- Large-area skim coating
- Dust-extraction sanding systems
- Drywall repairs specifically completed for professional painting
- Troubleshooting difficult wall and ceiling repairs
The DR Way on a Job
Our process is simple:
1. Understand the scope.
Know what you’re repairing and what the finished result needs to be.
2. Protect the space.
Set up properly before work starts.
3. Identify concerns early.
If you uncover something unexpected,
communicate it before proceeding.
4. Do the repair properly.
Don’t rush the steps that determine the final quality.
5. Check your own work.
Don’t wait for someone else to find deficiencies.
6. Leave it paint-ready.
Our painting team should be able to confidently continue from your finished work.
7. Leave the space clean.
The customer experience is part of the craftsmanship.
Transportation
A valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation are required.
Our projects are located throughout Edmonton and surrounding communities, and you must be able to travel reliably between job sites.
Physical Requirements
This is a hands-on trade position involving regular:
- Standing, bending, kneeling and reaching
- Working overhead on walls and ceilings
- Climbing and working from ladders or approved work platforms
- Handling drywall finishing tools and materials
- Repetitive sanding and finishing work
- Working in dusty environments while using appropriate dust-control equipment and PPE
Safety Matters
Quality never comes before safety.
All work must follow DR Painting’s safety procedures and applicable Alberta Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
Our safety program includes requirements around PPE, respiratory protection, ladders and fall protection, housekeeping, hazard reporting, tools and equipment, working alone and field-level hazard assessments.
Ceiling or building materials that may contain hazardous substances are not to be disturbed unless the area has been appropriately assessed and cleared for the work being performed.
If something doesn’t look right, stop, communicate and get direction before proceeding.
Why DR Painting?
We’re growing — but we’re not interested in growing at the expense of craftsmanship, our people or the customer experience.
Our vision is to:
Build a company our team is proud to work for and our customers are proud to recommend.
If you’re someone who takes pride in turning damaged walls and ceilings into clean, skilled, paint-ready surfaces — and you want to work with a company that notices and values great craftsmanship — we’d like to meet you.
