Backup & RMM Technician

Forbes IT Solutions Ltd. is a rapid-growing managed IT services provider specializing exclusively in the dental industry. We currently support more than 500 dental clinics across Canada, providing managed IT support, cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery, infrastructure monitoring, Microsoft 365, networking, and technology consulting.

Because we focus specifically on dental practices, our team works with a wide range of dental software, imaging systems, servers, workstations, networks, and security platforms. Our goal is simple: keep our clients' systems secure, reliable, backed up, and operational.

We are looking for a Backup & RMM Technician to join our team. This role is focused primarily on proactively monitoring and maintaining our clients' backup systems, servers, workstations, security software, and RMM alerts.

This is not primarily a help-desk position. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying problems before they become outages, resolving alerts, maintaining healthy backup systems, and escalating more serious infrastructure or security issues when required.

Responsibilities

- Monitor backup systems across our client base, including Datto, Cove Data Protection, and Slide.
- Review backup dashboards daily and ensure all scheduled backups are completing successfully.
- Troubleshoot and resolve failed, incomplete, or degraded backups.
- Investigate backup failures involving VSS, Windows services, storage capacity, connectivity, credentials, agents, snapshots, SQL databases, Hyper-V environments, and other common backup-related issues.
- Monitor backup appliance health, storage utilization, retention, synchronization, and cloud replication.
- Verify backup recovery points and ensure backups are not only completing but are actually recoverable.
- Perform file, folder, database, and system restore testing when required.
- Monitor Datto RMM alerts for servers and workstations.
- Investigate and resolve alerts related to:
- Low disk space
- High CPU or memory utilization




- Server or workstation offline status
- Failed Windows services
- Hardware and disk warnings
- RAID and storage issues
- Windows patching failures
- Software and agent failures
- Network connectivity issues
- Monitor antivirus and endpoint security alerts, including SentinelOne and other security platforms.
- Investigate malware detections, security-agent failures, offline security agents, and suspicious endpoint activity.
- Escalate serious cybersecurity incidents to senior technical staff when required.
- Ensure required RMM, backup, antivirus, and monitoring agents are installed and functioning correctly.
- Identify devices that have stopped reporting to our monitoring platforms and restore connectivity.
- Review server health, Windows Event Viewer, system logs, disk health, services, and performance data as part of troubleshooting.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on servers and workstations.
- Use PowerShell and other tools to assist with troubleshooting and remediation where appropriate.
- Create and maintain accurate support tickets for all alerts, remediation work, and escalations.
- Document recurring issues and recommend permanent fixes rather than repeatedly clearing the same alerts.
- Follow up on unresolved alerts until they are fully resolved.
- Work with other Forbes IT technicians on issues that require onsite support, networking changes, server work, or vendor involvement.
- Assist with onboarding new clients into Forbes IT's backup, monitoring, and security platforms.




- Maintain a high standard of documentation and ensure important infrastructure issues are communicated clearly to the appropriate team members.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is proactive and takes ownership of problems. This position requires someone who does not simply acknowledge or close alerts, but investigates why they happened and works to permanently resolve the underlying issue.

Experience working for an MSP or Managed Services Provider is strongly preferred, particularly in an environment supporting a large number of servers and workstations.

The ideal candidate will have experience with Windows Server, Windows 10/11, backup technologies, RMM platforms, endpoint security, Microsoft environments, networking, and general infrastructure troubleshooting.

Experience with Datto, Cove, Slide, Datto RMM, SentinelOne, Hyper-V, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, PowerShell, and Windows Server would be considered a strong asset.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $50,000.00 per year
