JOB SUMMARY
The Addiction Court Support Counsellor provides support/liaison and clinical services for eligible individuals with substance abuse issues who have come into contact with the justice system. Clinical duties include screening, assessment and treatment planning, consultation, community treatment and case management. The position may also involve some community work, including educational presentations and regular travel within Grey Bruce.
KEY DUTIES - RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Receive referrals from the accused individual as well as from families, friends, police, defense counsel, crown attorney and community agencies
Ø Gather information to complete a psychosocial assessment including medical and relevant criminal background and the current and existing support services network
Ø Meet with the individual to assess their suitability for the program including assessment of their addiction status and psychosocial issues
Ø Provide support and information to the accused and their family
Ø Determine that the individual is not violent and will not present issues of safety to the general public
Ø Develop an individualized service plan when the individual consents to participation in the program
Ø Present recommendations for treatment to the Federal and Provincial Crown for approval
Ø Provide case management and counselling to individuals that have been approved for the program and report to the court as required
Ø Provide consultation to the Provincial and Federal Crown Attorney regarding individuals presenting with addictions disorders who are either too high a risk of violence or the charges are too reliable to support a diversion plan
Ø Provide consultation support and local resources to custody facilities for inmates presenting with addictions disorders
Hours of work are 37.50 per week. The normal workday is 8 hours, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Working in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

What you will bring
Ø A university degree in a relevant program
Ø Registration with one of six recognized colleges is required. (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Nurses of Ontario, College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, College of Psychologists of Ontario)
Ø Knowledge of pharmaceuticals used in the treatment of addictions
Ø Ability to advocate and coordinate service access
Ø Current knowledge of adult addictions services, community services and the justice system in Grey Bruce
Ø Experience working with clients with serious mental illness and addictions
Ø Ability and experience providing counselling (DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and other therapeutic intervention and crisis intervention skills).
Ø Proficiency in a variety of therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy,
Motivational Interviewing, etc.
Ø Demonstrated background and comfort level in crisis and therapeutic intervention and one-on-one counselling. An ability to provide counselling support for a variety of mental health and addictions concerns, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, substance abuse, healthy relationships, anger management, etc.
Ø An empathic approach, strong clinical skills and excellent collaborative networking skills.
Ø A valid Canadian driver's license and the use of a reliable personal vehicle
Ø Minimum $2,000,000 third party liability vehicle insurance
Ø A satisfactory criminal record check including vulnerable sector screening
