Overview
Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Community Safety, the Community Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting all day-to-day services for Community Safety Programs in the RDCO. This position facilitates volunteer participation, maintains tip information with accuracy and confidentiality, assists in organizing community outreach events, and provides administrative support to help strengthen public awareness and build a safer, more connected community.
Responsibilities
Support effective promotion of Community Safety Programs program by working with Communications to produce media releases, presentations, and promotional materials such as:
- Unsolved Crimes.
- Mug Shots and Most Wanted features.
- Public Service Announcements.
- Advertisements.
- Newsletters and Articles.
- You-Tube and Facebook social media postings.
- Crime Re-enactments (Global)
- Hot Recs program (Stolen ATV’s, etc.)
Coordinate and assist with all services related to the Crime Stoppers P3 tip data:
- Maintain Crime Stoppers and RCMP files.
- Communicate with the public to respond to tipster queries, arrange payments, follow and conclude tips.
- Communicate with and distribute relevant tip information to the RCMP and other investigative authorities.
- Ensure proper closure of tips and removal of suspects from active files when appropriate.
- Ensure accurate documentation and secure handling of sensitive information.
Assist with event participation and community outreach:
- Assist in preparing for and participating at promotional public and community events.
- Promote volunteer opportunities to the public.
- Reach out to community members to raise awareness and interest in the program.
- Provide information and answer questions about volunteer roles and responsibilities.
- Collect and process applications or expressions of interest.
Provide administrative support including:
- Track and maintain monthly program statistics.
- Acts as the primary point of contact for the telephone line and e-mail enquiries.
- Assist in the day-to-day administration of the existing community policing programs.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation and program activities.
- Support communication and coordination between volunteers and program leads.
- Assist in the creation and delivery of Community Safety Crime Prevention programs.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Training and Experience Required:
- Post-secondary Diploma in Office Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Minimum two years’ experience in a related field including experience working with volunteers.
- Valid BC Drivers Licence.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain RCMP Security Clearance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, often unsupervised.
- Strong multi-tasking, organization, prioritization, and time management skills
- Demonstrated initiative and sound decision-making within established policies and guidelines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Ability to handle private and sensitive information with tact and diplomacy
- Solid computer literacy including skills in MS Office, Adobe and ability to quickly learn and use database management and software systems

$43.22 /Hour
Work Conditions
Physical Effort: Occasional lifting and carrying.
Physical Setting: Office environment with some presentations in the community and meetings at various locations.
Mental Stress: Dealing with confrontational and confidential situations. Meeting deadlines and multiple priorities.
Sensory Attention: Short periods of attention to detail.
Additional Information
This is a full time, continuous CUPE 338 position that works a schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch. This job opening closes on the evening of Saturday, September 26, 2026.
