In addition to its core competencies as a ground improvement specialist, Menard operates throughout the entire infrastructure life cycle, offering soil investigation and remediation expertise through its ConeTec and Remea brands. These two specialty brands are being developed, utilizing the existing Menard network to gain a solid foothold within the ground improvement arena.

The Design and Engineering Department supports Menard Canada's ground improvement projects from the preliminary planning stage through final design and project close-out documentation.

Job Objective

The purpose of this position is to provide drafting and technical design support for Menard Canada's ground improvement projects throughout Ontario. The Drafter is responsible for preparing accurate engineering drawings, plans and technical documentation that support project delivery from proposal stage through construction and project close-out.

Major Functions

· Interpret design specifications and technical data provided by engineering staff to create precise drawings and plans for ground improvement projects.

· Utilize AutoCAD software (Civil 3D) and other drafting tools to produce detailed layouts

· Generate drawings that adhere to industry standards, relevant regulations and best practices for ground improvement techniques





· Incorporate feedback from engineers and stakeholders to refine drawings and ensure accuracy

· Assist in the preparation of technical documentation including takeoffs, preliminary drawings/sketches, technical reports, construction drawings and as-built drawings.

· Prepare georeferenced drawings for use by site staff.

· Coordinate with other drafters, engineers and project managers to resolve design issues and optimize project outcomes

· Support project managers in reviewing drawing revisions and other submittals and provide technical assistance during construction phases

· Create and maintain drawing templates, block libraries and establish drawing standards for use across Ontario in coordination with drafters in other provinces

· Prepare quantity calculations and material take-offs from design drawings.

· Manage drawing revisions and maintain document control throughout the project lifecycle.

· Support proposal preparation by generating preliminary layouts and conceptual drawings.

· Assist with the development of standardized drafting procedures and best practices.

· Ensure quality control of drawings prior to issuance.

- Comply with all Menard Canada Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in required safety training and meetings.




- Promote a safe working environment and report potential hazards.

Supervision

Under the supervision of the Design Manager, while working closely with Business Unit Managers, Project Managers, and Project Engineers.

Knowledge, competence, skills, other requirements

A. Knowledge

· Strong understanding of drafting principles, techniques and standards

· Understanding of geodetic coordinates systems and their use.

· Ability to read and understand structural, architectural, and civil drawings

· Understanding of structural concepts (footings, columns, etc.)

B. Experience

· 2-5 years of drafting experience in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, heavy construction, infrastructure or land development projects.

· Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D is considered an asset.

· Experience working with survey data and georeferenced drawings is considered an asset.

C. Competencies

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

· Ability to learn new drafting software and technologies.

· Knowledge of Bluebeam Revu is considered an asset.

· Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Drafting Technology, Engineering Design or related field.

· Solid attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate technical drawings.

D. Skills

· Effective communication skills to collaborate with project teams

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

· Adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies.

E. Other requirements

· Fluent in English, French proficiency is an asset
