Position Overview

S2 Metal Fabricators is seeking an experienced Project Coordinator / Estimator with a strong background specifically in structural steel fabrication and estimating. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking structural steel projects from the initial sales lead and tender stage through estimating, procurement, coordination, execution, cost control, and project completion.

This role requires hands-on experience reviewing structural steel drawings and specifications, preparing material and labour take-offs, estimating shop fabrication hours, pricing structural steel projects, coordinating purchasing, and supporting project execution.

Responsibilities & Duties

- Review structural steel drawings, specifications, tender documents, and addenda to determine project scope.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for structural steel components and materials.
- Estimate shop fabrication labour hours required for structural steel projects.
- Develop cost estimates for structural steel materials, shop labour,



equipment, subcontractors, and other project requirements.
- Review drawings and specifications and prepare complete structural steel tender packages.
- Interpret structural steel drawings, blueprints, specifications, proposals, and related documentation.
- Identify material, labour, equipment, and subcontracting requirements.
- Price bills of materials for the fabrication shop.
- Obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations and evaluate pricing.
- Develop and maintain relationships with structural steel suppliers and subcontractors.
- Prepare spreadsheets summarizing quantities, alternates, and separate pricing required for tenders.
- Review labour requirements and determine appropriate labour rates, burdens, tools, insurance, bonding, and other project costs.
- Prepare project scope change estimates and change orders.
- Prepare preliminary project schedules and coordinate project timelines.
- Ensure resources and materials are available according to project schedules.
- Coordinate procurement and purchasing of structural steel materials, equipment, supplies, and subcontracted services.
- Track and update project purchases and costs.
- Monitor project budgets and cash flow.
- Coordinate with production, fabrication, engineering, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Perform project risk assessments and support corrective actions when required.
- Monitor quality requirements and ensure compliance with the company's Quality Management System.
- Address addenda, RFIs, change orders, and other project documentation.
- Perform customer follow-up regarding submitted proposals.




- Support project planning and estimating activities from tender through project completion.

Qualifications & Experience

Structural steel experience is mandatory for this position.

- 3–5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, estimating, and/or project coordination.
- Demonstrated experience estimating structural steel fabrication projects.
- Strong ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Experience completing structural steel material and quantity take-offs.
- Experience estimating fabrication/shop labour hours.
- Knowledge of structural steel materials, fabrication processes, and terminology.
- Knowledge of structural steel project costs, including material, labour, equipment, subcontractors, and transportation.
- Experience with tendering, RFQs, supplier quotations, and subcontractor pricing.
- Knowledge of project change orders and cost-control processes.
- Working knowledge of procurement techniques, procedures, and policies.
- Strong project coordination and organizational skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze complex or incomplete drawings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
- Experience with structural steel estimating/fabrication software such as Strumis is considered an asset.
- Solid commitment to workplace safety and quality.

Education

- Post-secondary education in Engineering Technology, Construction, Project Management, Estimating, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Equivalent extensive experience in the structural steel fabrication industry will also be considered.

Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
