CNC Machinist - Tool & Die / Job Shop
Windsor, Ontario | $24-$35/hour | Rotating Day/Night Shift
Opening Overview
Our client is an established Windsor-area job shop specializing in custom tooling, precision machining, and Tool & Die work. The company is growing its machining team to support increased workload and an expanded shift operation.
This is varied, high-mix work in a small, highly experienced shop, not repetitive production machining.
Who This Role Is For
This opportunity is well suited to an experienced CNC Machinist who:
- Can perform complete CNC setups and run jobs independently.
- Is comfortable with Fanuc controls, tooling, speeds and feeds, and offsets.
- Can read a blueprint, understand what needs to be produced, and work through machining issues without constant direction.
- Enjoys job shop, Tool & Die, tool room, or other high-mix machining environments.
This is not a CNC programming position. Programs are prepared by an in-house programmer. The machinist is responsible for setting up and successfully running the work.
What You'll Be Doing
- Set up and operate YCM CNC machining centres using existing 2D and 3D programs.
- Select cutters and tooling and establish appropriate speeds and feeds.
- Set and adjust tool offsets and make machining adjustments as required.
- Read and interpret blueprints independently.
- Measure and inspect work to ensure parts meet print and quality requirements.
- Troubleshoot machining problems, identify what went wrong, and make practical corrections.
- Work closely with the CNC Programmer and shop team to keep jobs moving and meet customer delivery dates.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure workstation.
What We're Looking For
- Approximately 5+ years of CNC machining experience preferred.
- Strong CNC setup experience.
- Experience with Fanuc controls.
- Excellent blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
- Robust understanding of cutters, tooling, speeds and feeds, and offsets.
- Hands-on machining troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work the required rotating day/night schedule.
Nice to Have
- Tool & Die or tool room experience.
- Job shop or other high-mix, low-volume machining experience.
- CNC programming knowledge. Programming is not required, but the ability to understand a program and recognize potential machining issues is valuable.
- Exposure to Wire EDM or other tooling processes.
What's In It For You
- $24-$35/hour, based on relevant experience and capability.
- Growing operation with additional work already in the pipeline.
- Varied machining work rather than running the same production part every day.
- Strong overtime opportunities.
- Clean, highly organized shop where housekeeping and safety are taken seriously.
- Small team with exceptional stability. Approximately 70% of the current workforce has been with the company for 20-30 years.
- Strong internal mentorship from experienced tradespeople.
- A workplace built around accountability, respect, communication, and a "One Team" approach.
- Medical, dental, short-term disability, and long-term disability benefits upon becoming a permanent employee.
- Two weeks' vacation and a paid Christmas/New Year's company shutdown.
Schedule
The company is expanding its shift coverage to make better use of its equipment and support increased workload.
- Rotating day/night schedule, approximately every two weeks.
- Day shift: approximately 6AM-6PM.
- Night shift: approximately 3:30PM-3:30AM.
- Overtime is available, including Saturdays when required by production.
If you're an experienced CNC Machinist who enjoys varied job shop work, takes ownership of your machining, and can be trusted to work independently, we'd welcome the opportunity to connect.
Thank you for your interest and time. While all applications are reviewed, only qualified candidates will be contacted. All applications are handled confidentially.
