The Role
At Fitness World, every member who walks through our doors is chasing a goal — and our Fitness Manager makes sure our team delivers the results that get them there. As FM at our Blanshard Street club, you oversee all fitness and personal training products and services at the location. You build and lead an engaged, high-performing team of Personal Trainers, set the standard for programming and coaching, carry your own roster of clients, own the club's fitness financial results and member retention, and bring our culture and values to life every day. If you love developing trainers as much as you love a best-in-class member experience, this is your room to lead.
What You'll Do
Lead and develop the personal training team
- Recruit, screen, and hire Personal Trainers (with District Fitness Manager / VP of Fitness Services approval) and ensure onboarding is completed on time
- Provide leadership through coaching, feedback, goal-setting, and performance management that supports each trainer's long-term career and personal development
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly check-ins, development, and training with your team
- Build monthly schedules at least two weeks in advance that adhere to labour budget
- Ensure the team follows all company policies, procedures, and programs — including health and safety, member management, HR, and payroll
- Process and submit new hires, changes, terminations, payroll, and all required documentation per company policies and deadlines
Set the programming and coaching standard
- Teach and develop your trainers in progressive program design
- Validate that trainers' programming is driving measurable client results
- Teach and coach supplement programming across the team
- Validate and audit client programs in Trainerize for quality, consistency, and results
Train and program for your own clients
- Carry your own roster of personal training clients and deliver their sessions
- Design, progress,
and adjust each client's individualized program using progressive program design
- Coach your clients through their supplement programming
- Build, manage, and keep your own clients' programs current in Trainerize
Drive fitness and personal training performance
- Achieve personal training and supplement goals through effective leadership and motivation of your Personal Trainers
- Communicate club equipment, facilities, programs, and PT offerings and promotions to trainers to maximize member engagement at the point of sale
- Implement personal training programs and promotions alongside the District Fitness Manager / VP of Fitness Services to achieve department goals, client acquisition, and penetration of the member base
- Ensure trainers develop engaging, high-quality personal training programs that align with each client's goals
- Ensure accurate administration of personal training products and services — measurement tracking, dotFIT usage, and session-redemption procedures
Deliver a best-in-class member experience
- Encourage and support members in setting and pursuing their fitness goals, including through personal training
- Own member retention and satisfaction for the fitness department at your club
- Address employee and member concerns promptly, following company policies and documentation requirements
Keep the floor safe and standards high
- Immediately address cleanliness, health, and safety concerns and incidents
- Report incidents to the District Fitness Manager / VP of Fitness Services and Human Resources via the Accident & Incident Report Form
- Maintain a clean, safe training environment in line with WorkSafeBC requirements
Partner across the club
- Foster strong relationships with other departments and functional areas — Accounting & Finance, HR & Payroll, IT, Marketing, and Repairs & Maintenance
- Take on additional duties as assigned
What You'll Bring (Required)
- 2+ years of hands-on personal training experience working directly with clients
- 2+ years of experience leading a team of 8 or more fitness professionals (trainers and/or instructors) in the fitness industry
