About us

Gamble Lock is a commercial door, lock, and glass service company. We maintain and repair the entrances, hardware, and security on buildings that can't afford to be out of service — financial institutions, national retail chains, and managed commercial properties across Canada.

Our work is scheduled, documented, and done for clients who depend on us to get it right the first time.

The role

This is a hands-on, learn-the-trade position for someone who wants a career in a skilled trade rather than a job. You'll start by working alongside our technicians and grow into running your own calls.

Locksmithing on commercial buildings is more mechanical than most people expect. A storefront door that won't latch, a panic bar that's dragging, a closer that slams — these are diagnostic problems. We'll teach you to read them.

What you'll learn

In your first year:

- Commercial door hardware — closers, exit devices, panic hardware, hinges, pivots, thresholds
- Mortise and cylindrical locksets: installation, repair, adjustment
- Key systems — cutting, pinning, rekeying, and how master key systems are built
- Diagnosing why a door or frame isn't working, not just replacing parts
- Documenting work properly: photos, measurements, and site reports our clients rely on

As you progress:

- Access control and electrified hardware — strikes, mag locks, card readers, wiring
- Door automation — operators, automatic swing and sliding doors, activation and safety sensors
- Door and frame replacement, including hollow metal
- Working independently on national account sites

What we're looking for

Required:

- Mechanically inclined — you take things apart to understand them
- Valid Ontario G driver's licence and a clean driving record
- Physically capable: lifting doors and hardware, working on ladders, kneeling, standing




- Comfortable using a phone or tablet for work orders, photos, and reporting
- Able to pass a criminal background check — our financial and retail clients require it for site access
- Reliable and presentable: you're often the only person from our company a client sees

Helpful but not required:

- Any hands-on trade background — carpentry, millwork, automotive, machining, construction
- Basic electrical or low-voltage experience
- Experience working in occupied buildings or retail environments

No locksmith experience necessary. We'd rather train the right person than retrain the wrong one.

- Paid training and manufacturer certifications

- Company vehicle and fuel card once you're running calls independently — typically 3 to 6 months

During the apprenticeship stage you'll be paired with a technician and travel to sites together, so a personal vehicle is not required for daily work. You'll rotate among our full technicians rather than shadowing just one — each of them brings different strengths, from hardware and door installation to access control and door automation. That gives you exposure to the full range of what we do, and a real chance to find out where your own strengths are and what you enjoy most before you specialize.

Hours

Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Most work is in the Greater Toronto Area and southern Ontario, with occasional overnight travel for regional site work. Travel expenses covered.
