Laboratory Technician
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Laboratory Technician to support day-to-day microbiology testing in accordance with SOPs and approved methods. The ideal candidate is flexible and reliable, with availability to work weekdays and weekends. This is a one-year term position, with potential for extension and transition to a full-time permanent role based on business needs and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform sample log-in, sampling, plating, transfer, and streaking of pathogens in accordance with established SOPs and assigned methods.
- Conduct testing activities under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor or Assistant Laboratory Supervisor.
- Perform quality control (QC) sample testing when required and under the direction of the Quality Assurance Coordinator (QAC).
- Assist with the preparation of microbiological media as required.
- Ensure samples are properly stored and disposed of following completion of analysis and in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, work areas, and benches on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis as assigned by Management.
- Monitor laboratory consumables and equipment expiry dates and communicate upcoming or expired items to the appropriate personnel.
- Follow general instructions for routine laboratory work and detailed instructions for new or specialized assignments.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and follow all applicable SOPs, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
- Perform other laboratory-related duties as assigned by Management.
· Available to work from Tuesday to Saturday, Sunday and holidays as required.
Qualifications & Competencies
- College diploma in Microbiology, Biotechnology or a related discipline.
- Minimum of one year of experience working in a microbiology laboratory.
- Hands-on experience with microbiological techniques such as plating, streaking, sample preparation, and aseptic technique is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow SOPs, laboratory methods, and detailed instructions consistently.
- Solid teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Commitment to laboratory safety, quality, and good laboratory practices.

Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
