Job Summary

The Production Supervisor ensures work is completed according to schedule, standards are followed, employees are trained and supported, and production issues are resolved in real time. The role acts as a key link between production employees, Lead Hands, Production Planning, Quality, Maintenance, and Management to achieve operational objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Production Execution (Primary Function)

Lead and coordinate daily shop floor activities including:

- Cutting, drilling, forming
- Welding and assembly
- Finishing and material handling
- Execute production plans provided by Production Planning
- Coordinate work assignments through Lead Hands and production employees
- Assign work based on skill level, workload, delivery commitments
- Monitor progress throughout the shift and adjust resources as required
- Ensure work is completed: safely, on time, to specification and at expected productivity levels
- Support achievement of daily, weekly and monthly production targets

Hands-On Floor Leadership

- Maintain a visible and active presence on the production floor
- Provide frontline leadership and support to Lead Hands and operators
- Work alongside employees when operational demands require support
- Assist with critical operations and production bottlenecks as required
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for: production issues, equipment concerns, quality concerns, safety issues, employee issue
- Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment

Team Leadership, Training & Performance Management

- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop production employees
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of new employees




- Coordinate employee training, cross-training, and re-training activities
- Ensure employees are trained and competent to safely perform assigned tasks
- Conduct regular performance discussions and coaching conversations
- Participate in formal performance reviews and development planning
- Monitor attendance, productivity, quality performance, and adherence to company policies
- Address performance concerns, attendance issues, and behavioural concerns in a timely manner
- Provie recognition and support employee development and engagement

Daily Communication & Coordination

- Lead daily production meetings and shift-start huddles
- Communicate: Production priorities, safety topics, quality concerns, delivery commitments, operational updates
- Coordinate with: Production Manager, Lead Hands, Production Planning, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Operational Leadership
- Effectively communicate production status, risks, and resource requirements.

Quality Management

- Ensure products meet customer requirements, engineering specifications and company quality standards
- Ensure employees follow: drawings, work instructions, weld procedures, standard operating procedures,
- Verify first-off inspections and in-process quality checks are conducted
- Stop production when quality concerns could impact product conformity
- Ensure defects and non-conformances are properly documented and addressed
- Participate in investigations and corrective actions related to quality concerns
- Support continuous improvement of quality performance and reduction of rework

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

- Enforce all company safety policies and procedures
- Ensure proper use of PPE and compliance with safe work practices
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and safety observations
- Address unsafe conditions and behaviours immediately
- Participate in and lead incident, injury and near miss investigations




- Support corrective actions and risk reduction initiatives
- Promote a culture of safety accountability and continuous improvement
- Maintain compliance with OHSA requirements and company policies

Productivity & KPI Ownership

- Assume accountability for operational performance within assigned areas
- Monitor and report key performance indicators including: production output, labour efficiency, schedule attainment, rework and scrap, overtime utilization, attendance, safety performance
- Identify and remove production barriers
- Implement actions to improve efficiency and reduce waste
- Support achievement of departmental productivity goals

Problem Solving & Escalation

- Identify issues affecting production performance, including: equipment breakdowns, labour shortages, material shortages, quality concerns, scheduling concerns
- Take immediate action to resolve operational issues
- Escalate issues to Production Manager when required
- Participate in root-cause investigations and corrective action planning
- Monitor effectiveness of implemented solutions

Continuous Improvement

- Identify opportunities to improve: productivity, efficiency, quality, safety, employee effectiveness
- Support lead manufacturing initiatives and waste-reduction programs
- Recommend process improvements and workflow enhancements
- Capture and evaluate employee feedback regarding operational improvements
- Support implementation of continuous improvement projects
