Full-time School Counsellor - 1.0 FTE Probationary

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is recruiting school-based counsellors. This is a Division position, with initial assignment at St. Lorenzo Ruiz Middle School in Red Deer. This full-time position will focus on the school counsellor role. Please note that all work will be in office.

This position is open to both certificated and non-certificated staff.

Certificated Candidate Requirements:

The Certificated Counsellor FTE of this position is 0.6 FTE, with a 0.4 FTE Teaching allocation. Total FTE is 1.0.

Graduate level training in counselling

- - This may include Masters in Counselling Psychology, Masters in School Counselling, Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary studies with a focus on school counselling, Masters or Bachelor in Social Work

- Consideration may be given to applicants presently working on a Master's in these areas

- Bachelor of Education Degree

- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate

- A minimum of five years of teaching experience

- Effective organization and classroom management skills

Non Certificated Candidate Requirements:

The Non-Certificated FTE of this position is 1.0 FTE.

- Successful candidates will possess a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology or equivalent, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, or equivalent

- Active registration with a relevant college or association

Qualifications for both Certificated and Uncertificated Candidates:





- Be comfortable working in a Faith filled environment

- Experience in counselling or social work, particularly in a school setting

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust quickly

- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents

- Cultural sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations

- Experience in trauma-informed practice

- Knowledge of multiple counselling approaches

- Empathy and sensitivity to others' needs

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Threat Assessment Training (VTRA, CSTAG, etc) would be considered an asset

- Training in ASIST would be considered an asset

- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check

Compensation will be based on the successful candidate's experience, certifications, and qualifications.
