Job Type: Full-time, On-site/Hybrid
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Salary: $65,000 – $85,000 per year
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper to take ownership of the company's full-cycle bookkeeping and accounting operations.
This is an excellent chance for a bookkeeping professional who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and identifying opportunities to improve processes and internal controls.
The successful candidate will play an important role in keeping the company's financial records accurate, up to date, and audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger activities.
- Maintain subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
- Perform bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and prepare trial balances.
- Process payroll, including payroll remittances and related reporting.
- Prepare and submit GST/HST and payroll source deduction filings.
- Prepare monthly financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing financial information and trends.
- Manage the month-end close, including accruals, prepaids, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Administer QuickBooks Online (QBO) and related accounting software, including document capture, expense management, and payroll platforms.
- Review existing accounting processes and recommend improvements to workflows, documentation, and internal controls.
- Work closely with the external accountant during year-end activities.
- Prepare year-end working papers and respond to accounting and audit-related queries.
- Provide direction to bookkeeping support staff when applicable.
- Perform transactional bookkeeping and data-entry responsibilities as required.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of company, financial, employee, and client information.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of progressive bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a small or mid-sized business environment.
- QuickBooks Online (QBO) experience is required.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
- Payroll
- General Ledger
- Bank and account reconciliations
- Financial reporting
- Government remittances and filings
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and working with large data sets.
- Knowledge of payroll accounting requirements, payroll remittances, and related filings.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify discrepancies and errors before they affect financial statements.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment about when to resolve issues and when to escalate them.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with any of the following accounting and business platforms is considered an asset:
- Dext
- Hubdoc
- Xero
- Sage 50
- Wagepoint
- Similar accounting, document management, expense, or payroll platforms
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is preferred. A bookkeeping or accounting certification is considered an asset.
Salary placement within the range will depend on the candidate's experience, skills, knowledge, and qualifications.
