Compensation: CAD $100,000 – $120,000 / year (Flexible / open to negotiation for high-calibre candidates) Open for contracting as well
Role Summary
We are urgently seeking a Senior Software and Hardware Engineer with deep aerospace domain expertise to join our team in Toronto, ON or Montreal, QC. In this high-impact role, you will review, audit, and evaluate supplier airborne software and electronic hardware (FPGA, ASIC, PLD) designs to ensure absolute compliance with client specifications and civil airworthiness authority standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Reviews: Participate in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR) for complex airborne systems.
- Supplier & Design Assessment: Audit supplier airborne software, electronic hardware certification plans, and architecture designs (FPGA, ASIC, PLD).
- Audits & Safety of Flight: Conduct technical and process audits at supplier facilities; lead Safety of Flight (SOF) reviews.
- Compliance Determination: Evaluate test results and analyses to determine final regulatory compliance; author and review formal design compliance reports.
- Deficiency Resolution: Spearhead the resolution of safety, compliance, and technical discrepancies across suppliers and internal client stakeholders.
- Strategic Leadership: Support the evolution of the SWEL (Software and Electronics) domain roadmap and mentor junior engineering staff.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics, Software, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
- Professional Membership: Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligibility/membership with PEO (Qualified Engineers Ontario).
- Experience:
- Minimum 15+ years of technical engineering experience, including at least 10 years dedicated to the aeronautics/civil aviation sector.
- 5+ years of direct, hands-on experience in FPGA/ASIC development and/or embedded software development for airborne systems.
- Aviation Standards & Means of Compliance (MOC): Thorough working knowledge of:
- RTCA DO-178B/C, DO-248B/C, DO-254, DO-330
- EASA CM-SWCEH-001 & CM-SWCEH-002
- FAA AC 20-115D, AC 20-152A, and FAA Orders 8110.49A / 8110.105A
- Technical Breadth:
- Proficient in requirements management tools (DOORS, Jama Connect).
- Knowledge of programming and hardware description languages (C, C++, Ada95, Assembly, Python, VHDL/Verilog).
- In-depth understanding of embedded computer architectures, RTOS, and real-time executives.
