Janitorial Floor Refinishing & Maintenance Specialist – Team LeaderJob Overview
United Janitorial is seeking a reliable and experienced Janitorial Floor Refinishing & Maintenance Specialist – Team Leader to join our team. This position is responsible for the care, restoration, and ongoing maintenance of various commercial, industrial, and institutional flooring surfaces.
The successful candidate will have strong floor-care experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to lead and manage a team effectively while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer service.
The hourly rate of pay will be based on experience and qualifications.
Core Responsibilities
1. Floor Refinishing
- Strip old wax, sealers, and finishes from hard-surface floors, including VCT, terrazzo, and linoleum.
- Apply new coats of floor finish or wax using industry-standard methods.
- Buff and burnish floors to restore shine and durability.
- Ensure proper drying and curing times between coats.
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
2. Deep Floor Cleaning
- Perform intensive floor cleaning using auto scrubbers, rotary machines, extractors, and other specialized equipment.
- Remove embedded dirt, stains, scuff marks, and buildup from high-traffic areas.
- Select and use appropriate cleaning products and methods for different floor types, including tile, concrete, epoxy, and rubber.
3. Routine Floor & Carpet Maintenance
- Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop floors as required.
- Spot clean spills, stains, and scuff marks.
- Maintain carpeted areas through vacuuming, spot treatment, and periodic extraction.
- Complete scheduled maintenance according to client requirements.
4. Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Safely operate floor-care equipment, including buffers, burnishers, auto scrubbers, vacuums, and extraction machines.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.
- Keep equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition.
- Report equipment issues or repair requirements to management.
5. Team Leadership
- Lead and supervise a team while completing floor-care and janitorial projects.
- Assign tasks and ensure work is completed efficiently and to company standards.
- Train and support team members on proper floor-care procedures, equipment operation, and safety practices.
- Monitor the quality of work and provide direction when improvements are required.
- Communicate professionally with supervisors, employees, and clients.
- Ensure the team follows schedules and completes assigned work within required timelines.
6. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company and site-specific safety procedures.
- Properly use required PPE and follow safe chemical-handling procedures.
- Place appropriate signage around wet floors and restricted work areas.
- Follow WHMIS requirements and other applicable workplace safety standards.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
7. Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate records and logs of completed work.
- Track floor-care and maintenance schedules.
- Report floor damage, safety hazards, equipment issues, or other concerns to management.
- Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and team members.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous experience in commercial janitorial floor care, floor refinishing, or related work.
- Experience operating floor-care equipment such as buffers, burnishers, auto scrubbers, and extractors.
- Ability to effectively manage, motivate, and direct a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime as required.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
- Ability to safely lift and move equipment and supplies as required.
- WHMIS knowledge is considered an asset.
- Additional floor-care certifications or training are considered an asset.
Compensation
Hourly Rate: Based on experience and qualifications.
