SCHEDULE
This role primarily works overnight on rotating 10 hour shift, 4-day on and 4-day off, schedule. Overtime may be required. Start date is around the end of October.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Snow Cat Operator grooms and maintains snow surfaces across Rabbit Hill using tracked snow cats, delivering a consistently high-quality surface for guests. The ideal candidate operates machinery skillfully and reliably in challenging weather and terrain, often working independently overnight, and brings Rabbit Hill’s values — Accountability, Innovation, Adaptability, Passion, and Community — into daily work.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be over 18 years of age.
- Strong communication skills and effective problem-solving abilities.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Positive, proactive approach to teamwork and collaboration.
- Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Able to react quickly and remain calm under pressure.
- Physically capable of performing manual tasks and heavy lifting, up to 50 lbs.
- Previous snow cat or heavy machinery operation experience preferred.
- Be reliable and punctual — arriving late or missing a shift without notice puts real strain on your team and other departments who have to cover the gap.
- Must be able to begin work around the end of October.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable personal transportation required. Our location is not served by public transit and taxi service can be unreliable.
JOB DUTIES
- Model and promote Rabbit Hill’s core values — Accountability, Innovation, Adaptability, Passion, and Community — through daily actions, teamwork,
and work quality.
- Be professional and collaborative with coworkers and other departments.
- Perform nightly grooming operations on all runs, around buildings, and within the Terrain Parks and Tube Park, following established grooming plans.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures for slope grooming, including during severe weather and on varied terrain.
- Conduct daily inspections of snow cats, promptly reporting any mechanical concerns.
- Maintain effective communication with fellow operators, managers, and other departments via radio and required reports.
- Ensure machines and workspaces are kept clean, tidy, and well-maintained.
- Ensure all groomed surfaces meet Rabbit Hill’s quality and safety standards.
- Report hazards, incidents, or safety concerns to a supervisor or manager promptly.
- Wear warm, weather-appropriate clothing and non-slip weather-appropriate footwear on shift.
- Be willing to assist other departments as needed, especially during peak periods.
- Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor or manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Extended periods of sitting while operating heavy equipment.
- Manual dexterity required for equipment operation and hand tools.
- Frequent reaching, kneeling, bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, and lifting.
- Working alone at night for extended shifts.
- Exposure to outdoor winter conditions, including extreme cold, snow, and wind.
