MCRC Therapist/Counsellor – Independent ContractorService Delivery Opportunities

MCRC is seeking qualified independent contractor Therapist/Counsellors for a variety of service delivery opportunities. Depending on community needs, contractor availability, qualifications, and the individual Service Arrangement, opportunities may include:

- Remote/Virtual Services: Providing therapy and counselling remotely from the contractor's home or private practice setting through secure virtual platforms.
- In-Person/Community Services: Providing therapy, counselling, and related services within community-based settings.
- Fly-In Remote Community Services: Providing therapy and counselling within remote First Nations communities. Contractors may accept 7-day or 10-day fly-in service rotations, based on community service needs, contractor availability, and the terms agreed upon in the individual Service Arrangement.

Independent contractors may indicate their interest and availability for virtual, in-community, fly-in remote community services, or a combination of service delivery opportunities.

The MCRC Therapist/Counsellor is an independent contractor who provides confidential mental health and addiction therapy and counselling services to individuals and families through virtual, in-community, and in-person service delivery.

Services are provided from a holistic, client-centred, and trauma-informed perspective, with respect for Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) traditions, cultures, values, and teachings. The Therapist/Counsellor supports individuals and families in working toward their therapeutic goals, healing, resilience, and overall well-being.

Cultural knowledge and awareness, along with a commitment to culturally safe, responsive, and respectful practice, are expected.

Scope of Contracted Services

Depending on the individual Service Arrangement and the needs of the community, contracted services may include:

- Providing counselling and therapy services, including intake, assessment, treatment planning, and appropriate follow-up within the contractor's professional scope of practice.
- Providing individual counselling and therapeutic interventions from a trauma-informed and client-centred perspective.
- Consulting and liaising, where appropriate and with required consent, with community agencies, schools, hospitals, nursing stations, health services, and other service providers to support continuity and coordination of care.
- Maintaining appropriate clinical case notes, reports, and other documentation in accordance with professional, regulatory, privacy, and applicable MCRC service requirements.




- Establishing respectful and professional therapeutic relationships with clients and families.
- Supporting positive client outcomes through evidence-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approaches.
- Providing psychoeducational information, workshops, or programming where included within the agreed scope of contracted services.
- Providing services within the contractor's professional scope, competencies, regulatory requirements, and individual Service Arrangement.

Qualifications and Contractor Requirements

- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or another related human services field from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Must be registered and in valuable standing with an applicable professional regulatory or licensing body and provide current proof of registration.
- Must maintain professional liability insurance appropriate to the services being provided, including coverage for virtual service delivery where applicable.
- Minimum of 5 years of recent direct counselling/therapy experience preferred. Experience in community-based services, family support, and group facilitation is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience related to the impacts of colonization, intergenerational and residential school trauma, substance and behavioural addictions, mental health concerns, concurrent disorders, grief and loss, suicide risk, family violence, and issues affecting First Nations individuals, families, and communities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver psychoeducational programming, workshops, information, and resources.
- Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, culturally safe, respectful, and client-centred service delivery.
- Strong assessment skills and an understanding of the importance of local Indigenous histories, cultures, beliefs, traditions, and practices.
- Knowledge of Indigenous traditions and cultures, or a demonstrated commitment to ongoing cultural learning.
- Recent experience providing services to Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) individuals, including experience in urban, rural, or remote communities, is considered an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clinical documentation, case notes, correspondence,



and report writing.
- Ability to provide contracted services independently while collaborating appropriately with multidisciplinary and community-based service providers.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Functional computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to accept contracted service opportunities that may include daytime, evening, or weekend service delivery, depending on community and client needs.
- Mental Health First Aid is considered an asset.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification may be required for in-community and fly-in remote community service opportunities.
- Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, completed within the required timeframe.
- Professional references may be required as part of the contractor screening and credential-verification process.
