GENERAL SUMMARY

The Viola Desmond Justice Institute (VDJI) is a B3 not-for-profit community organization dedicated to fostering a fair, equitable, and just criminal legal system for justice-involved Black people across Canada and strengthening access to justice.

The Viola Desmond Justice Institute (VDJI) is seeking a creative, organized, and socially conscious Social Media Content Creator to support our digital communications efforts from October 2026 through January 2027.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing AI-assisted social media content, creating engaging visuals and copy, maintaining a consistent posting schedule, and helping expand awareness of VDJI's programs, events, and impact across multiple platforms.

This contract is ideal for a qualified with experience in nonprofit communications, social impact storytelling, digital marketing, and AI-powered content creation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develop and implement a social media content strategy aligned with VDJI's communications and volunteer engagement goals.
- Create and schedule content for: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok
- Design and produce AI-assisted social media graphics, videos, and written content consistent with VDJI's brand.
- Create a total of 50 branded content pieces (graphics and accompanying copy).
- Deliver all content in both English and French (French proficiency or access to translation support required).
- Develop promotional assets for events, including: Save-the-date graphics, Countdown campaigns, Speaker spotlight posts, Event reminders
- Create a content calendar with recommended posting dates, times, and platform-specific strategies.
- Conduct monthly analytics reviews and provide recommendations to improve reach, engagement, and audience growth.
- Provide guidance and basic training for volunteers responsible for posting and content execution.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts professionally.
- Strong content creation, graphic design,



and copywriting skills.
- Experience using AI content creation tools
- Knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok best practices.
- Experience developing content for nonprofits, social justice, community-based organizations, or educational organizations is an asset.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Understanding of anti-Black racism, equity, access to justice, and community-centered communications is highly desirable.
- Ability to produce content in both English and French.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Understanding of social media strategy, audience engagement, and digital marketing best practices.
- Knowledge of content creation trends across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
- Working knowledge of AI content creation tools and platforms.
- Understanding of branding and visual storytelling.
- Familiarity with nonprofit, community-based, equity-focused, and social justice organizations.
- Awareness of issues impacting Black communities, anti-Black racism, access to justice, and criminal legal system reform is considered a strong asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- This is a remote, contract-based position.
- Contractor must provide their own computer, software licenses, internet access, and equipment required to fulfill the contract.
- Work hours are flexible; however, the contractor must meet agreed-upon deadlines and be available for periodic virtual meetings with VDJI staff.
- Some evening or weekend work may be required to support events, campaigns, or time-sensitive communications.
- The contractor will work independently while collaborating regularly with VDJI staff and volunteers.
- All work products developed under this contract will become the property of the Viola Desmond Justice Institute.

COMPENSATION

- Fixed Contract Amount: $5,000 CAD.
- Creation of 50 branded content pieces.
- This contract covers all services and deliverables from October 2026 through January 2027.

Pay: $5,000.00 per year
