Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and support the financial management of a growing project-based organization. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close activities, supervising Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, and serving as backup for payroll processing.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with strong full-cycle accounting experience, demonstrated leadership skills, and advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial records
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and month-end working papers
- Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Serve as backup payroll administrator when required
- Review and monitor purchase orders, estimates, project costs, and client billings
- Prepare and analyze reports including AR Aging, AP Aging, Purchase Orders, Estimates, Work-in-Progress, and cash flow reports
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances
- Support internal controls,
process improvements, and accounting best practices
- Assist the Director of Finance with financial reporting, budgeting, and special projects
Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in interior design, construction, architecture, engineering, or professional services environments is preferred
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, full-cycle accounting and month-end close processes
- Previous experience supervising accounting functions or staff
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online is required
- Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with project accounting, job costing, and time billing is an asset
- Exceptional attention to detail combined with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities effectively.
