MATERIAL HANDLER

JOB SUMMARY
The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials. This role supports production and customer deliveries by receiving incoming materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, picking building kit orders, packaging components, preparing shipping documentation, and coordinating domestic and international shipments. The Material Handler plays a critical role in ensuring customers receive complete, accurate, and on-time deliveries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Order Picking & Kit Preparation (Primary Function)
- Pick building kit components according to work orders, packing lists and customer requirements
- Verify quantities, part numbers, and material specifications before shipment
- Assemble, stage, and organize complete building kits for shipment
- Ensure all components, hardware, documentation, and accessories are included in each order
- Identify and report shortages, discrepancies, or damaged materials
- Label products, crates, bundles, and pallets according to shipping requirements
- Maintain high standards of order accuracy and shipment quality
- Coordinate with production departments to ensure kits are completed on schedule
Shipping & Logistics
- Prepare domestic and international shipments according with customer and carrier requirements
- Package materials to prevent damage during transport
- Load and unload trucks safely using forklifts and related material handling equipment
- Prepare bills of lading, packing slips, shipping labels, customs documents and export paperwork as required
- Assist Material Coordinator to coordinate freight pickups and deliveries with transportation providers
- Verify shipment contents against packing slips and customer orders
- Assist in tracking shipments and resolving any discrepancies
- Ensure compliance with international shipping regulations and company procedures
Receiving
- Receive incoming materials, supplies and inventory
- Verify received quantities against purchase orders and packing slips
- Inspect incoming shipments for visible damage and report issues promptly
- Accurately record receipts in ERP and/or management inventory systems
- Label and store materials in designated locations
- Coordinate resolution of receiving discrepancies with Purchasing and manufacturing partners
- Maintain organized receiving and storage areas
Inventory Control
- Perform routine cycle counts and inventory audits
- Maintain accurate inventory records and transaction reporting
- Properly store materials to maximize space utilization and accessibility
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all company safety policies and procedures
- Conduct regular housekeeping and safety inspections within assigned areas
- Wear and maintain required PPE
- Participate in safety meetings and training programs
- Report hazards, near misses, incidents and equipment concerns immediately
Productivity & KPI Ownership
- Order picking accuracy (%)
- On-time shipment performance
- Receiving accuracy (%)
- Inventory accuracy (%)
- Shipping documentation accuracy
- Units picked per shifts/day
- Freight damage incidents
- Cycle counts completion rate
- Warehouse organization and housekeeping scores
Problem Solving & Escalation
- Identify inventory discrepancies and shipping issues before customer impact
- Escalate shortages, damaged materials, and shipping delays
- Assist in root cause analysis related to inventory or shipment errors
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focusing on efficiency and accuracy
- Recommend process improvements to improve warehouse and shipping operations
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, manufacturing, or logistics
- Experience preparing domestic and international shipments preferred
- Experience with building materials, manufacturing parts, or industrial products considered an asset.
- Experience operating forklifts and material handling equipment
Technical Skills
- Ability to read packing lists, work orders, and shipping documentation
- Familiarity with inventory control procedures and warehouse operations
- Experience using ERP or warehouse management systems
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
- Understanding of international shipping and customs documentation is an asset
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification
- Valid Class G driver’s license considered an asset

Working Conditions
- Manufacturing, warehouse, and shipping environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving equipment
- Comfortable working in hot/cold, indoor/outdoor, noisy and/or industrial settings
- Frequent standing, walking, bending and lifting
- Regular lifting of materials up to company-established limits
- Operation of forklifts, and other warehouse equipment
- PPE required at all times in designated areas

The salary range provided in this posting is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on a number of factors, including candidate experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location as well as internal equity and budget considerations.
