Red Seal Truck & Equipment Repair is looking for an experienced Heavy-Duty Shop Foreman to help lead our busy truck and trailer repair operation in Edmonton.

We are looking for someone who is mechanically strong, experienced with heavy-duty equipment, comfortable leading technicians, and able to keep work moving efficiently through the shop.

This is a hands-on leadership position.

The Shop Foreman will work closely with the Service Manager and Operations team to make sure technicians have clear direction, repairs are completed properly, labour time is controlled, documentation is complete, and units leave the shop repaired correctly.

Responsibilities

- Supervise and support heavy-duty technicians on the shop floor
- Assign work based on technician experience, workload and repair priority
- Review repair instructions with technicians before work begins
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support
- Monitor technician progress throughout the day
- Identify jobs that are exceeding estimated or expected labour time
- Address delays and productivity issues before they become larger problems
- Ensure technicians properly document: Diagnosis, Cause of failure, Repairs completed, Parts required, Additional findings, Labour performed
- Ensure no repair is considered complete without proper technician documentation
- Review additional repair findings before they are submitted for customer approval
- Ensure technicians do not perform unauthorized additional repairs
- Coordinate with the Service Manager regarding estimates, approvals and customer priorities
- Coordinate with the Parts Department to make sure required parts are identified and available
- Verify parts being installed match the correct unit and work order
- Perform or coordinate quality-control inspections on completed repairs
- Help prevent comebacks and repeat repairs
- Assist technicians with complex diagnostics and repairs
- Monitor shop cleanliness, organization and safety
- Ensure proper use and care of shop tools and equipment
- Help maintain efficient bay utilization




- Assist with scheduling emergency repairs and breakdown work
- Help train and mentor apprentices and junior technicians
- Maintain accountability for technician performance and shop-floor standards
- Communicate clearly with management regarding delays, staffing issues, equipment problems and repair concerns

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate should have significant experience in the heavy-duty truck and trailer repair industry.

Preferred qualifications include:

- Alberta Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification
- Red Seal certification is a strong asset
- Strong heavy-duty truck diagnostic and repair experience
- Robust trailer repair experience
- Previous Shop Foreman, Lead Technician or supervisory experience
- Strong understanding of: Air brake systems, Suspension, Steering, Electrical systems, ABS, Engine and emissions systems, Drivetrain, Preventive maintenance, Commercial vehicle inspections
- Ability to read and understand repair estimates and work orders
- Strong understanding of labour times and technician efficiency
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic ability
- Ability to lead technicians respectfully while maintaining accountability
- Strong communication skills and Good organizational skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced commercial repair environment
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems without constant supervision
- Basic computer skills
- Experience with Fullbay or similar shop-management software is an asset

Working With Management

The Shop Foreman works closely with the Service Manager and Operations team.

The Service Manager manages the customer, estimates, approvals and work-order process.

The Shop Foreman manages the technician execution and shop floor.

Both positions are expected to communicate throughout the day so that:

- Technicians have clear instructions
- Customer approvals are understood
- Additional repairs are reported quickly
- Labour overruns are identified early
- Parts delays are communicated
- Repairs are properly documented
- Quality checks are completed
- Finished work can move to invoicing without unnecessary delays
