GSE & Facilities Maintenance Technician

Location: Edmonton International Airport
Job Type: Full-Time
Starting Wage: $40.00/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility on start and finish times

About the Position

We are looking for a skilled, hands-on, and self-motivated Maintenance Technician to join our operation.

This position is approximately 75% mechanical maintenance and 25% facility maintenance and coordination.

The primary focus will be maintaining and repairing our Ground Support Equipment (GSE), company vehicles, and other mechanical equipment. The position will also be responsible for general building maintenance, parts and supply ordering, organization, and coordinating outside contractors and service providers.

This is not a supervisory position, but it requires a high degree of autonomy, initiative, and ownership.

We are looking for someone who can identify a problem, determine what needs to be done, and see it through to completion without requiring constant direction.

Key Responsibilities

GSE & Vehicle Maintenance — Approximately 75%

- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on GSE and company vehicles.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other equipment-related problems.
- Perform routine servicing, fluid changes, brake work, battery maintenance, and general mechanical repairs.
- Maintain equipment in a safe, reliable, and operational condition.
- Identify potential problems before they result in equipment downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and service records.
- Coordinate outside repairs when specialized work is required.
- Maintain an organized inventory of commonly required parts, fluids, tools, and supplies.
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedules for applicable equipment.

Building & Facility Maintenance — Approximately 25%

- Perform general building maintenance and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot basic facility issues and determine when outside expertise is required.
- Complete minor plumbing, electrical, lighting, door, fixture, and other maintenance tasks where appropriate and within the individual’s qualifications.

- Conduct regular inspections of the facility and identify maintenance requirements.
- Assist with seasonal building and grounds maintenance.
- Keep mechanical and maintenance areas clean, safe, and organized.

Contractor & Service Coordination

- Arrange and schedule outside contractors and service providers.
- Meet contractors on site and provide access and information regarding required work.
- Obtain quotes when required.
- Monitor contractor work and ensure requested work is completed properly.
- Follow up on outstanding repairs and maintenance issues.
- Maintain records of contractors, service providers, completed work, and warranties.
- Communicate significant maintenance requirements and recommendations to the General Manager.

Purchasing & Organization

- Order mechanical parts, tools, maintenance supplies, and facility-related materials.
- Obtain pricing and availability from suppliers.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of commonly required items.
- Keep parts, tools, equipment, and storage areas organized.
- Track outstanding orders and parts required for upcoming repairs.
- Maintain organized maintenance documentation and records.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a Journeyman certification as either:

- Heavy Equipment Technician (Heavy-Duty Mechanic); or
- Automotive Service Technician (Automotive Mechanic).

In addition, candidates must have:

- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Previous experience working independently in a mechanical maintenance environment.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- A safety-first approach to maintenance and repairs.

Assets

- Experience working with GSE.
- Experience with commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, or industrial equipment.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
- General building maintenance experience.
- Experience coordinating contractors or service providers.
- Experience managing parts and maintenance inventory.

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will be someone who:

- Takes ownership and pride in their work.
- Can work independently with minimal supervision.
- Identifies problems and takes the initiative to resolve them.
- Can troubleshoot rather than simply replace parts.
- Follows tasks through from start to finish.
- Is organized and capable of managing multiple maintenance requirements.
- Is comfortable dealing directly with suppliers and contractors.
- Knows when a job can be handled in-house and when a qualified contractor is required.
- Understands that keeping equipment operational means being proactive, not just reacting when something breaks.

Schedule

The normal schedule is Monday–Friday, approximately 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.

We are flexible on start and finish times for the right candidate, provided operational requirements are met.

Occasional schedule adjustments may be required for urgent equipment or facility issues.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting wage: $40.00/hour

Extra benefits include a employee benefits package.

Vacation: Two weeks per year.

Why This Position?

This isn’t a position where you’ll be doing the same repair every day.

You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of the mechanical maintenance of our operation while also playing an important role in keeping the facility running properly.

There is a high degree of independence in this position. We trust our maintenance personnel to identify issues, make decisions, solve problems, and get things done.

If you’re the type of person who likes fixing things, figuring things out, staying organized, and taking ownership, we’d like to hear from you.

Pay: From $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Work Location: In person
