Qualifications:

Education:

§ Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or a related field, or a Diploma or Certificate in Justice or related field. Victim Services Coordination, with experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Prerequisites:

§ Must qualify for CPIC clearance vulnerable sector that meet Moose Jaw Police Service security and integrity requirements.

§ Must qualify for Royal Canadian Mounted Police security clearance.

§ Must have a valid class 5 driver’s licence.

§ Proven clear and effective oral and written communication skills; fluent in spoken English.

§ Proven interpersonal skills.

§ Ability to work on a call-out basis when necessary and directed by supervisors.

§ Proven reliability in being able to display good judgement concerning confidential matters.

§ Proven understanding of trauma informed practices.

§ Possibility of a handler role for an Accredited Judicial Facility Dog. (AJFD)

§ Ability to work some weekends and evenings when necessary and when directed by supervisors.

Function:

§ To provide victim services in the City of Moose Jaw and the surrounding district served by The Moose Jaw RCMP detachment. Primarily, but not limited to, working with vulnerable children/youth and their families. Provide services to victims of crime and traumatic events including crisis intervention, information, advocacy, support and referrals as well as court related assistance. Work collaboratively with other agencies and professionals.

Accountability:

§ The Victim Service Responder is accountable to the Victim Services Coordinator and Staff Sergeant responsible for the Community and Strategic Services Unit.

Primary Tasks:





§ Must understand and follow the Transfer Agreement between the Ministry of Justice and the Moose Jaw Police Service for additional tasks/requirements.

§ Must attend and complete all training as required and assignments as directed.

§ Be an active liaison with community-based organizations and maintain a close working relationship with the Ministry of Justice, Victims Services Branch.

§ Prepare and submit all Ministry of Justice reports, including but not limited to;

victims’ compensation requests, victim impact statements/restitution documents, for summary of incidents, statistical reports as per fulfillment of agreement between Ministry of Justice and Moose Jaw Police Service.

§ Open to undertake the role of handler for the Accredited Judicial Facility Dog for the duration of their employment. Which includes, complete all training necessary to handle the dog, consistent with Pacific Assistance Dogs Society protocols. The deployment of (AJFD) for victim forensic interviews and victim/crown witness court cases, conveyance to work and home, have a suitable environment at home for the dog.
