Role Summary The Sheet Metal Worker Apprentice will assist with and perform sheet metal fabrication, layout, assembly, and installation work in accordance with drawings, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. The role requires practical trade experience in sheet metal work, including fabrication, installation, assembly, reading drawings and blueprints, and use of equipment such as brakes and shears. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safe, accurate workmanship are required.

Key Responsibilities

· Complete sheet metal fabrication and assembly work in accordance with drawings, work instructions, specifications, and quality standards.

· Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, work orders, blueprints, and measurement specifications to determine layout, fabrication, and assembly requirements.

· Measure, mark, cut, bend, shape, punch, drill, and form sheet metal using shop tools, measuring equipment, and fabrication machinery.

· Operate and assist with metalworking equipment such as shears, brakes, punches, drill presses, and other fabrication machinery within the apprentice’s level of training and authorization.

· Fit, align, and assemble sheet metal components to ensure proper fit, function, and conformance to drawings and specifications.

· Join sheet metal parts using appropriate fastening, riveting, welding, grinding, and finishing techniques.

· Perform visual, dimensional, and functional checks to confirm product quality, fit, alignment, and workmanship.

· Identify and communicate fabrication or assembly issues as they arise and support corrective action under the direction of a journeyperson or supervisor.

· Prepare completed products or components for outbound handling, installation, or the next stage of production.

· Support installation of sheet metal products and components in accordance with specifications, drawings, and applicable codes.

· Handle materials safely and support proper staging, movement,



and organization of parts, components, tools, and equipment.

· Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.

· Follow all Parklane Mechanical health and safety policies, procedures, and applicable workplace regulations.

· Work collaboratively with journeypersons, supervisors, and other team members to complete work safely, efficiently, and to required standards.

Qualifications and Skills

· Must be registered as, or eligible to continue as, a Sheet Metal Worker Apprentice in Ontario.

· Minimum 2nd year apprenticeship standing required.

· Completion of secondary school or equivalent is required.

· At least 2 years prior hands-on experience in sheet metal fabrication, assembly, installation, or related trade work is required.

· Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, measurements, work instructions, and specifications.

· Demonstrate advanced knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, machine setup, tooling selection, material characteristics, bend deduction, forming techniques, production sequencing, and quality control.

· Ability to independently operate and optimize multiple fabrication work centres, including press brakes, shears, panel line equipment, punching and forming equipment, while diagnosing production issues and mentoring less experienced operators.

· Working at Heights certification required.

· Valid driver’s licence required.

· Forklift certification or experience required.

· Crane operation certification or experience required.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate,



high-quality work.

· Ability to follow direction, work as part of a team, and learn from experienced tradespeople.

· Ability to work safely in a shop and/or industrial environment and comply with all safety procedures.

· Ability to lift (up to 50 lbs), carry, stand, bend, climb, and perform repetitive tasks as required by the position.

Successful candidate must provide their own tools

Work Environment

- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move materials as required throughout the shift.
- Ability to safely lift and handle materials within company safety guidelines.
- Comfortable working around forklifts, cranes, production equipment, and active manufacturing operations.
- Must follow required personal protective equipment, housekeeping, and workplace safety standards at all times.
