We are currently looking for an Art Therapist to join the Creative Arts Therapy Program at the Hospital for Sick Children. As an Art Therapist you will contribute to the coordination and provision of art therapy treatment services to inpatients at the hospital, and be involved in the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the art therapy program. You will provide patient care services within assigned practice areas, educate staff, and act as a resource for patients, families, and the health care team, in accordance with the set Creative Arts Therapy Standards of Care guidelines.

Part of this role may also include the supervision and training of art therapy students, if qualified to do so.

Here’s What You’ll Get to Do:

- Provide art therapy services using creative resources and outlets to improve self-expression, processing of health and hospital experiences, and support overall well-being.
- Create and implement developmentally appropriate, diverse art therapy group and individual interventions at bedside, in playrooms and other locations as appropriate.
- Adapt art therapy interventions to suit patient needs and abilities based on treatment goals.
- Document in hospital electronic patient charting system relevant information regarding physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral issues as they pertain to art therapy directed treatments.
- Evaluate patient progress and outcomes and modify programs as necessary.
- Contribute to education and professional development opportunities related to art therapy to other multi-disciplinary team members through both structured and unstructured interaction.
- Provide ethnically and culturally sensitive and inclusive care to a diverse patient population.
- Promote excellence and leadership through demonstrated expert practice, education, and consultation.





Here’s What You’ll Need:

- Masters Degree or Post Graduate Diploma in Art Therapy from a school recognized by the Canadian Art Therapy Association
- Licensed or eligible for skilled registration with an art therapy organization an asset
- Registered Psychotherapist (or qualifying) an asset
- Minimum two years experience working with children and adolescents in a medical or counseling-based setting preferred.
- Experience working with patients with life threatening or complex illnesses in a hospital setting preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the health care team and to take initiative and leadership when appropriate
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrate the ability to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and efficient time management
- Belief in lifelong learning and evidence-based practice
- Understand the importance of and demonstrate the ability to foster a culture of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
