The facilities of Calvary Community Church are used for both our church and for Millwoods Christian School, providing Christian education to 900+ K-12 students in South East Edmonton. We are currently looking to hire a Maintenance Technician 2 to work in both our school and church. If you want to use your facility maintenance skills to serve the kingdom, we want to meet you!
The Maintenance Technician 2 is a versatile member of the Facilities team who assists with the day-to-day maintenance, care, preparation, and operation of the buildings and grounds of Calvary Community Church and Millwoods Christian School.
This position requires general knowledge of multiple areas of facility maintenance, a willingness to learn, practical problem-solving skills, reliability, physical ability to perform a variety of maintenance and grounds tasks, and a strong team-oriented approach. The Maintenance Technician 2 works under the direction of the Facilities Manager and in collaboration with the Maintenance Technician 3 and other staff.
The position is an opportunity to serve God, the church, the school, and the community by helping maintain safe, clean, functional, and welcoming facilities.
Your Key Responsibilities:
General Facility Maintenance
- Assist with routine and preventative maintenance of the church and school’s buildings, grounds, systems, and equipment.
- Develop and maintain a general working knowledge of multiple areas of facility maintenance, including: Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Painting, Drywall and finishing, Basic HVAC and mechanical systems, and General building maintenance and repairs.
- Complete basic repairs and maintenance tasks as directed and within the employee’s level of training and competence.
- Assist the Senior Team Member or Facilities Manager with more complex maintenance and improvement projects.
- Report maintenance issues, deficiencies, safety concerns, and required repairs to the Maintenance Technician 1 or Facilities Manager.
- Maintain tools, equipment, work areas, and maintenance supplies in a safe, clean, and organized manner.
- Assist in ensuring that maintenance work is completed properly and to the expected quality standard.
Event Setup and Teardown
- Assist with the setup and teardown of facilities for church and school events, programs, meetings, and activities.
- Move, arrange, and store tables, chairs, equipment, signage, and other items as required.
- Help prepare rooms and common areas before events and return them to their appropriate condition afterward.
- Assist with occasional evening and weekend events.
- Adjust daily priorities and work schedules as needed to support events and facility requirements.
Snow Removal and Grounds Maintenance
- Participate in all aspects of seasonal snow removal, including clearing sidewalks, entrances, access areas, and other designated areas.
- Assist with the operation, cleaning, and basic maintenance of snow removal equipment.
- Perform lawn maintenance, landscaping, gardening, and general grounds upkeep.
- Assist with seasonal preparation and cleanup of the church and school grounds.
- Help maintain outdoor areas so they remain safe, clean, accessible, and presentable.
Safety and Quality
- Follow established safety procedures and safe work practices at all times.
- Properly use tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment appropriate to each task.
- Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and maintenance concerns.
- Complete assigned work with attention to quality, cleanliness, and proper workmanship.
- Follow direction from the Facilities Manager and Maintenance Technician 3 regarding safety requirements and maintenance procedures.
- Participate in safety training and maintain awareness of applicable workplace safety requirements.
Team Member
- Work cooperatively with the Facilities Manager, team members, school and church staff, volunteers, contractors, summer students, and temporary workers.
- Be willing to assist with a wide variety of tasks outside of routine maintenance when required to support the operation of the facilities.
- Demonstrate a positive, service-oriented attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with staff, contractors, volunteers, students, church members, and visitors.
- See the position as a means of serving God and contributing to the ministry and mission of Calvary Community Church and Millwoods Christian School.
Emergency and Operational Support
- Assist with urgent maintenance situations during regular working hours.
- Support the Maintenance Technician 1 or Facilities Manager during emergency maintenance situations when required.
- Be aware of emergency procedures and know how to appropriately report urgent facility or safety concerns.
- Maintain flexibility when operational needs require changes to regular duties or schedules.
Administration
- Complete timesheets and other required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Complete maintenance checklists, records,
and work documentation as required.
- Report completed work, outstanding issues, and required materials to the Maintenance Technician 3 or Facilities Manager.
- Assist with inventory, organization, and tracking of maintenance supplies and equipment.
Flexibility and Availability
- Maintain a flexible schedule based on the operational needs of the school, church, and scheduled events.
- Be willing to occasionally work evenings and weekends when required for events, seasonal duties, or facility needs.
- Be prepared to perform a variety of physical, maintenance, grounds, setup, and cleanup tasks as required.
- Adapt priorities as facility needs and scheduled activities change.
What We’re Looking for in You:
Experience:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in facility maintenance or a related field.
- Experience working in a school and/or a church or similar community-based environment is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, drywalling, painting, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
Soft Skills:
- Proven experience in working as a team member or independently.
- Excellent problem solving skills and communication skills.
- High level of initiative and commitment to excellence.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, and be flexible in nature.
Physical Abilities:
- Able to spend up to eight hours a day in a physically demanding job including walking, standing, climbing stairs, lifting, tool and equipment usage and more.

Hours: 40 hours per week including some weekend work; to start immediately. Pay: Competitive and dependent upon experience.
