Kitchen Assistant / Kids Cooking Instructor (Casual Contractor)

Kingston, ON | $18/hour (depending on expertise's) | Transit or car required | Flexible, fun, fast-moving

Do you love food, kids, and a little controlled kitchen chaos (the fun kind)?

Cravin’ is looking for a Kitchen Assistant / Kids Cooking Instructor to support and sometimes lead our kids’ cooking classes, birthday parties, camps, farmers’ markets, and community events.

This role is perfect for someone who is confident speaking to groups, enjoys teaching through food, and can keep things organized while the kitchen is buzzing.

Position Snapshot

- Pay: $18/hour(depending on expertise's)
- Hours: Casual, shift-based (no set weekly minimum or maximum)
- Hours vary depending on bookings and your availability
- Some weeks may have multiple shifts, some weeks may have none
- Opportunity to grow based on demand and how many shifts you choose to take
- Type: Casual contractor role
- Location: Various Kingston venues, kitchens, schools, event spaces, and farmers’ markets (not one fixed location)

Availability Needed – You Choose Your Shifts We offer shifts weekly and you select what you’re available for. You are not scheduled into fixed hours — you pick up shifts that work for you.

Typical shift windows include

- Fridays: 2:00 PM – 9:30 PM
- Saturdays: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM (varied shifts within this window)
- Some Sundays: 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM (farmers’ market)

Work is completely shift-based — your hours depend on what you accept each week.

What You’ll Do

- Assist and/or lead kids’ cooking classes and birthday parties
- Guide groups of children with transparent, confident instruction




- Create a fun, safe, and structured learning environment
- Engage with parents and guests in a professional, friendly way
- Support food prep, setup, service flow, and cleanup
- Help at farmers’ markets and off-site community events when needed

What We’re Looking For

- Comfortable leading groups (kids and adults) or willing to grow into it
- Strong communication and “take the lead in the room” energy
- Organized, detail-focused, and calm under pressure
- Enthusiastic, reliable, and team-oriented
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
- Able to travel to different locations (car or transit access required)

Requirements

- Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Vulnerable Sector Check (required for working with children)
- Closed-toe shoes at all times in kitchen environments
- Hair tied back; no nail polish or jewelry while working

Nice to Have (But Not Required)

- Kitchen, baking, catering, or restaurant experience
- Teaching, childcare, coaching, or camp leadership background
- Event or hospitality experience
- Natural “crowd energy” and confidence speaking publicly
