Position Information Job Title Centre Technician – Carpentry
Appointment Type 9-month Recurring Term
Position Dates September 2026 - May 2027
Hours per week/FTE 40
About the Position The Centre for Trades and Technologies is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual with excellent communication skills to provide technical services for students and instructors. The position provides support for all apprenticeship and credit programs within the Centre for Trades and Technologies by supporting instructors during lab classes, maintaining shops, shop equipment, preparing materials and shops for classes, and maintaining/ordering shop supplies and materials. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean, Centre for Trades and Technologies.
Position Details The Centre Technician will be responsible for the following duties which include, but are not limited to:
- Purchase office and shop supplies
- Purchase materials to be used in shops and tracking purchases to ensure their timely arrival
- Prepare materials for shop projects
- Fix, arrange for repair and storage of shop tools and equipment
- Build jigs, teaching aids, and shop fixtures as required
- Maintain and clean shop tools and equipment
- Clean, organize and maintain lumber, tools, supply storage areas, bins, cupboards etc.
- Organize and store all printed materials, warranties, equipment manuals, maintenance material for all tools and equipment
- Keep Carpentry MSDS sheet up to date
- Keep Carpentry WHMIS labelling up to date
- Catalogue equipment and replace all tools and equipment
- Schedule and perform regular maintenance
- Set up and run a systematic inventory system that initiates purchase before supplied run out
- Complete annual inventory
- Pick up emergency items from suppliers using credit card
- Fabricate
- Attend staff meetings
The Center Technician for Carpentry will work closely with the Carpentry team,
while independently prioritizing functions and performing duties.
Required Qualifications
- Alberta Journeyman Certificate in the carpentry trade required, plus five (5) years of experience.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Applicants should have computer skills for handling purchasing online, strong organization skills for store inventory for stops, i.e. wood, tools, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Salary AUPE Class Level 10 Step 2 $33.36 per hour
