Job Summary In alignment with Interior Health's vision and values, the Chief of Staff (COS), Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, provides medical leadership to support high-quality patient care, clinical excellence, and organizational priorities across KBRH and surrounding communities.

Reporting to the Senior Medical Director, Clinical Operations and working in partnership with the Executive Director, Clinical Operations, the COS provides strategic and operational leadership for medical staff, clinical services, quality improvement, physician engagement, and medical governance. The COS supports the implementation of evidence-informed practices, medical staff bylaws and policies, workforce planning, and system-wide initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.

This role includes dedicated administrative responsibilities and may be combined with ongoing clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide medical leadership and clinical expertise in support of strategic, operational, and quality improvement priorities.
- Foster engagement, development, performance management, and succession planning for medical staff.
- Lead medical staff resource planning, recruitment, credentialing, privileging, appointment, and reappointment processes.
- Ensure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, Policies, and standards of professional conduct.




- Partner with clinical and operational leaders to advance patient safety, quality improvement, accreditation, and risk management initiatives.
- Manage assigned resources and budgets.
- Build cooperative relationships with physicians, community providers, health system partners, academic institutions, and external stakeholders.
- Support teaching, research, and academic partnerships with the Southern Medical Program and UBC Faculty of Medicine.
- Participate in Medical Leadership On-Call rotations and perform other related duties as required.

Skills and Competencies
- Demonstrated leadership consistent with the LEADS framework.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience leading change, building partnerships, and advancing quality improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of healthcare governance, medical staff administration, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

- Eligible for Medical Staff privileges at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.
- Current licensure in British Columbia as a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Dentist, or Midwife.
- Master's degree in health administration, business administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum five years of progressive healthcare leadership experience.
