Gloria’s Place is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and dependable Companion Support Worker to join our team.

Gloria’s Place provides a supportive, home-like environment for children and youth with a variety of developmental, medical, and behavioural support needs. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and youth and can build positive, meaningful relationships while encouraging communication, recreation, independence, and community involvement.

Position Overview The Companion Support Worker will provide individualized companionship and support to children and youth living at Gloria’s Place. This position is ideal for someone who is patient, engaging, creative, and comfortable adapting activities to meet each child’s developmental and communication needs.

Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder is strongly preferred. Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or experience supporting non-verbal or minimally verbal children would be considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities The Companion Support Worker will:

- Build positive and trusting relationships with children and youth.
- Provide one-to-one companionship and recreational support.
- Plan and participate in age-appropriate activities based on each child’s interests and abilities.
- Support community outings, recreational programs, walks, shopping, appointments, and other activities.
- Encourage independence and participation in daily routines.
- Support children with communication using verbal communication, visual cues, gestures, ASL, or other communication strategies.
- Provide support to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental differences.
- Assist with emotional regulation,



transitions, routines, and positive behavioural strategies.
- Encourage social interaction and community participation.
- Assist with personal care and hygiene when required.
- Support meal and snack routines as appropriate.
- Maintain a secure, respectful, and supportive environment.
- Follow individualized care plans, behavioural strategies, house routines, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Communicate relevant observations or concerns to nursing staff and supervisors.
- Complete required documentation and shift communication.
- Work collaboratively with nurses, support workers, families, schools, therapists, and other members of the care team.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will have:

- Experience working with children or youth.
- Experience supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Knowledge of or experience using American Sign Language (ASL).
- Experience working with non-verbal or minimally verbal children is an asset.
- Experience supporting children with developmental disabilities or complex needs is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, calm, positive, and respectful approach.
- Ability to engage children through recreation, play, sensory activities, and community outings.
- Ability to follow care plans, routines, and instructions consistently.




- Ability to work independently while also being part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Reliability and consistent availability.

Requirements Successful applicants will be required to provide:

- Child Abuse Registry Check
- Adult Abuse Registry Check, if applicable
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification
- Valid driver’s licence
- Driver’s Abstract
- Reliable transportation

Additional training related to Gloria’s Place and the needs of the children will be provided as required. Who We Are Looking For

We are especially interested in someone who is naturally good with children and understands that companionship is more than supervision.

The right person will be someone who takes initiative to interact with the children, learns their interests and communication styles, and finds meaningful ways to keep them engaged. This may include going for walks, attending community activities, doing crafts, playing games, sensory activities, listening to music, practising life skills, or simply spending quality one-to-one time together.

We are looking for someone who is patient and comfortable meeting children where they are developmentally while helping them build confidence, communication skills, independence, and positive relationships.

Previous experience with autism and ASL would be highly valued for this position.

Expected Work Hours

Monday to Friday : 1600-2000

Saturday & Sunday : 0800 - 1200 / 1600-2000

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16.0 – 20.0 per week
