Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Estimator, we are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to take a lead role on our estimating team.

This is a dedicated estimating position: the successful candidate will own the preparation of accurate, competitive cost estimates and quantity takeoffs, drive bid strategy, and see submissions through from tender to award. Strong estimating fundamentals and a solid educational foundation in civil engineering or a related discipline are essential to this role. As project deadlines dictate, some flexibility in scheduling is required.

Responsibilities

- Own the review of plans, specifications, and tender/contract documents
- Prepare detailed, accurate quantity takeoffs (hard copy and digital), including detailed electronic earthworks modeling
- Solicit and procure supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Lead site visits and pre-bid meetings
- Liaise directly with clients, owners, engineers, and architects to confirm and clarify project scope, plans, and specifications
- Prepare accurate cost estimates (lump sum and unit rate) and pricing strategy
- Present all key estimate items and risks to management before confirming final pricing
- Provide strategic input to management regarding scope inclusion and pricing
- Prepare and submit tender packages, proposals, and quotation letters
- Provide thorough project handoff documentation to operations and field teams, including summaries, materials lists, job information packages, and input on scope, specifications, and scheduling
- Provide estimate data for use in cost monitoring, reporting systems, and site inventory
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors,



and subcontractors
- Prepare change orders for adjustments to awarded contract work

Requirements

- Minimum 5 years of civil construction estimating experience
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contracts
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong math and computer skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Proficient in English (written and verbal)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, as dictated by project requirements and deadlines
- Valid Driver's License

Education

- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field is required
- Eligibility for, or progress toward, professional designation (e.g. AScT, CTech, PQS) is considered a strong asset.
- Equivalent combination of education and directly relevant estimating experience will be considered

Assets

- Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid
- Experience with Carlson Software
- Civil construction field experience
- Background in civil design, drafting, inspection, or survey

Work Location Requirement Applicants must be able to reliably commute to or relocate within the Lower Mainland, BC before starting work.
