Altex Industries Inc. is a leading Canadian designer and manufacturer of heat transfer equipment, serving the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, and other industrial sectors across Canada and internationally. We are currently looking for a CNC Mechanic – 3rd or 4th Year Apprentice to join our Manufacturing Division in Edmonton.
This position is ideal for a mechanically skilled apprentice who enjoys troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining CNC machinery and other industrial equipment. The successful candidate will work as part of our maintenance team to help ensure our CNC machines and production equipment operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on CNC machinery and related production equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and determine appropriate repairs.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Inspect CNC machines and equipment to identify wear, damage, or potential failures.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
- Assist with CNC equipment installations, modifications, and upgrades.
- Disassemble, repair, replace, and reassemble mechanical components as required.
- Repair and replace bearings, gearboxes, pumps, motors, belts, seals, and other machine components.
- Assist with troubleshooting machine alignment, movement, and mechanical operating issues.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and work to safely return machinery to operation.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, drawings, and technical information.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and preventative maintenance practices.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and established work practices.
- Work closely with Maintenance, Machining, Production, and other departments to support shop operations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered 3rd or 4th Year Apprentice Mechanic or equivalent recognized mechanical trade.
- Previous experience maintaining or repairing CNC machinery is preferred.
- Experience in an industrial or manufacturing maintenance environment is an asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, pumps, motors, and other industrial machine components.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, and schematics.
- Basic understanding of CNC machine operation and controls is an asset.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Solid problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
